It&#8217;s a record opening for the franchise, and made an additional $50.5 million in overseas markets, despite being thrashed critically. <\/p>\n<p>Second place belonged to the newcomer <b>Masters of the Universe<\/b>, which made $29.3 million against a $200 million budget. Because it&#8217;s an Amazon film, it is not as reliant on box office as other films may be, but it will certainly hope to bring in more audiences in future weekends after a disappointing start, despite warm reviews from critics and audiences alike. <\/p>\n<p><b>Backrooms<\/b> took the third spot with $29.5 million, a 70% drop from the first weekend. The film has made $135 million domestic and $212.6 million globally, overtaking A24&#8217;s biggest film to date <b>Marty Supreme<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>In the fourth spot was <b>Obsession<\/b>, which fell a mere 7% from last weekend in its fourth weekend of release with a $25.6 million take. This film&#8217;s insane box office run continues with a total take of $152.1 million in North America, and will surpass $200 million globally this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the top five was Fathom&#8217;s <b>The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act<\/b> with $19.4 million.
