Brown\/Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Head\u2019s daughters, actresses Emily Head and Daisy Head, announced his death in an emotional statement on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father, Anthony Head,\u201d they said. \u201cHe passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sisters went on to reflect on the impact their father had both on those closest to him and on generations of television viewers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed first-hand the impact both he and his work have had on so many,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>Head enjoyed a career that spanned nearly five decades, but he will forever be associated with his role as Giles, the wise and steadfast Watcher who guided Buffy Summers through countless battles against supernatural evil on <em>Buffy the Vampire Slayer.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZNcDnCjaMk\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>For many fans, Giles served as the emotional center of the series, providing guidance, humor and heart throughout the show\u2019s seven-season run.<\/p>\n<p>News of Head\u2019s passing comes just weeks after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/05\/nicholas-brendon-cause-of-death-buffy-the-vampire-slayer-star-was-54\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">death of Nicholas Brendon<\/a>, with whom he co-starred on <em>Buffy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Head found a new generation of admirers thanks to his performance as Rupert Mannion, the manipulative former owner of AFC Richmond on <em>Ted Lasso<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>His work on the acclaimed comedy-drama introduced his talents to viewers who may not have grown up with Buffy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues and fans of the shows he was in,\u201d the statement from Head\u2019s family continued. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe loved his job very much and he always considered himself incredibly lucky to have been able to work alongside such exceptionally talented people, in such wonderful productions, across a career that spanned several decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family went on to express their confidence that Head\u2019s work will continue to resonate with audiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur grief is far greater than the hole he has left behind but we know his legacy will live on in the shows he was a part of and in the audiences that love them,\u201d they said. \u201cHow lucky we are to know we are able to watch him doing what he loved, even when he is no longer with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement concluded with a request for privacy as the family mourns.<\/p>\n<p>Our thoughts go out to Anthony Head\u2019s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async defer src=\"https:\/\/platform.instagram.com\/en_US\/embeds.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/06\/anthony-head-cause-of-death-buffy-the-vampire-slayer-star-was-72\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reading Time: 2 minutes We have tragic news to report from the world of television today.
