Baylee Littrell<\/strong><\/a> is looking back on his American Idol<\/em><\/a> journey and how it came to an end sooner than he hoped.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought I knew all there was to know, and then I went on TV and did that, and literally felt that I caved under pressure, especially in the last couple of weeks. I was just tired,\u201d the singer, 23, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on Thursday, June 4, while discussing his new music. \u201cI wasn\u2019t myself. I was like, \u2018You\u2019ve got more in the tank, but you\u2019re just not showing it.\u2019 It was those types of feelings and I walked away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baylee, who is the son of Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell<\/strong>, competed on season 23. After performing an original song during his audition<\/a>, Baylee earned a golden ticket. He made it to the competition\u2019s Top 20 before getting eliminated<\/a>. While Baylee wasn\u2019t crowned the champion, the experience gave him some valuable lessons.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat show taught me so much. It was hard to make friends, to feel normal,\u201d he reflected. \u201cBut what\u2019s really funny is, I\u2019m going to credit Idol for this, they tried to get me in the pop or more R&B crowd, and they were like, \u2018We feel like you fit here,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018Yeah, well, I did when I was in grade school. I don\u2019t think I do anymore.\u2019 And they\u2019re like, \u2018OK, we\u2019ll see.\u2019 And they would keep trying to kind of push me toward that lane.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhen it comes to his bandmate Brian Littrell\u2019s son, Baylee, and his musical career, AJ McLean says the aspiring artist doesn\u2019t need anyone\u2019s advice. \u201cI mean, I\u2019ve known Baylee since he was born,\u201d McLean, 47, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting Netflix\u2019s Building the Band. \u201cI\u2019ve known him for 22 years of his life on [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Baylee confessed that after being eliminated from the singing competition, he felt defeated \u201cfor a moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so mad at myself, and I didn\u2019t realize how angry I was with my performances and the live TV aspect of it, and all that stuff,\u201d he explained. \u201cI was in shock for a while after it was over. It was kind of like, you missed it a little bit. You missed the environment. You kept waking up thinking, \u2018Oh, I\u2019ve got to be up downstairs for coffee, getting ready for the day,\u2019 and then there\u2019s nothing to be ready for. And you\u2019re like, \u2018Man, if I would have done this differently, I could have still been there doing this, or if I\u2019d had a better attitude.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While Baylee did think about how he could have improved, he is glad that his exit came when it did.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the same time, I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t go further. I think it was like a perfect learning experience, and without it, I don\u2019t know what I would be doing,\u201d he reflected. \u201cI mean, if I went farther, I might be farther into something that didn\u2019t fit me. I really do think that most things happen for a reason. I feel like some things are chosen, but this was, I think, a little bit of destiny, even if I didn\u2019t like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

After leaving American Idol<\/em>, Baylee took a full \u201cyear\u201d to reflect and figure out what was next for him. He went back to college to \u201cdebate\u201d his \u201cfuture,\u201d and after taking \u201csome advice,\u201d Baylee decided to give music one more try.<\/p>\n

Now, he\u2019s gearing up for the release of his new single, titled \u201cSo Be It,\u201d on June 12.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Us Weekly exclusively following his elimination from the singing competition show, Baylee, 22, admitted that he felt like somewhat of an outsider among the other contestants at first. \u201cIt was hard to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThis next chapter of music is honestly like the rebirth of my career. I\u2019ve been telling everyone that I feel like this is actually the beginning now,\u201d he told Us<\/em>. \u201cYou know growing up [in] the music business, doing this for so long,, but not really finding something that you truly love doing yet, and then thinking, \u2018Is this the right path for me, did I explore all my options before I walk away from this?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
