\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Quentin Tarantino<\/strong><\/a> is not holding back his thoughts on the current state of Hollywood.<\/p>\n The Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Pulp Fiction<\/em> recently shared a brutally honest assessment of modern movies with Sight & Sound<\/em> magazine, via Variety<\/a>. <\/p>\n Quentin<\/strong> argued that many recent releases fail to capture the magic that first made him fall in love with cinema. He said he finds it increasingly difficult to enjoy contemporary films without becoming distracted by what he sees as major flaws.<\/p>\n \u201cFlaws, implausibilities, audience pandering, miscast performers or just plain stupid s\u2014 usually torpedoes every new movie coming out of the flavorless sausage factory that used to call itself Hollywood,\u201d the director said. \u201cThese days, the entire concept of what is a movie is more inclined to inspire contempt in me than generosity.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The director compared today\u2019s film landscape to a decade he had previously criticized.<\/p>\n \u201cBy comparison the movies of the last six years make the \u201980s seem like the \u201930s,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n He did point out a few recent projects he enjoyed, such as Steven Spielberg<\/strong>\u2018s 2021 adaptation of West Side Story<\/em> and Kevin Costner<\/strong>\u2018s Horizon: An American Saga<\/em>.<\/p>\n Quentin <\/strong>added that he hasn\u2019t seen many films that have \u201creally held me in its grip\u201d lately, and that \u201cthese days I\u2019d rather read a book.\u201d<\/p>\n He also reserved special praise for one recent movie: Joe Carnahan<\/strong>\u2018s Netflix crime thriller The Rip<\/em>, starring Matt Damon<\/strong> and Ben Affleck<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Calling it \u201ca suspenseful new movie,\u201d Quentin<\/strong> said it \u201cdid grab me and held me for its entire duration.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe film is an exciting cop thriller with a novel premise that manages to deliver the goods in really clever ways. The whole package worked for me: Carnahan<\/strong>\u2018s direction, the splendid cast, the look of the film (courtesy of cinematographer Juan Miguel Azpiroz<\/strong>),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n In case you missed it, Quentin <\/strong>fired back at Rosanna Arquette<\/strong><\/a> earlier this year after she called him out for his frequent usage of a racial slur in his scripts.<\/p>\n\n
