Jennifer Garner \u2018hardly worked\u2019\u00a0after the \u2018upheaval\u2019 of her split from Ben Affleck<\/p>\n
The Alias star, 53, discussed her career, family life and return to acting in a new interview, with the actress \u2013 who has three children with her ex Ben \u2013 saying she dramatically reduced her workload while raising her family and then worked even less following the couple\u2019s separation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jennifer, whose other best-known roles include 13 Going on 30, Juno and Dallas Buyers Club \u2013\u00a0told InStyle: \u201cFirst of all, when you\u2019re in a performance kind of role, you give up a year\/year-and-a-half of performance while you are pregnant, having a baby, recovering.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jennifer added: \u201cWhen my kids were little, I worked so little, and then we had such an upheaval in our family, that I really hardly worked for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jennifer and Ben, 53, married in 2005, welcomed their eldest daughter the same year and announced their separation in 2015 before finalising their divorce in 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nDespite the end of their marriage, the pair have remained committed co-parents and have frequently been photographed together at family events over the years.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress also told InStyle her children \u2013\u00a0Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13 \u2013\u00a0found it difficult whenever work took her away from home, but said they were \u201csuch bricks\u201d about losing time with their mother.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking about filming her new project The Five-Star Weekend with older children, Jennifer said: \u201cTo have this year and a half where I just indulged (in acting), because this job is very selfish.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt\u2019s all about your schedule. It\u2019s not about what the kids have going on at school. It’s not about pick-ups and drop-offs and making it home for dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJennifer said the experience reminded her acting remains an important part of her identity.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cI relate to that feeling of like, \u2018Okay, I gave everything to mothering. I\u2019m still their mom, I\u2019m not going anywhere, I\u2019m still all-in\u2019. I’m also really grateful to have this part of my life back.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe actress added she no longer feels guilty about balancing work and family commitments.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cI don\u2019t apologise to my kids for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nInstead, Jennifer explained she thanks them for supporting her career while maintaining boundaries that allow her to remain present in their daily lives.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cBut that\u2019s part of life. Working hard is part of life, and messing up is part of life. Tripping and falling\u2014there’s room for all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
