Shakira<\/a> has always learned important lessons from setbacks in her life.<\/p>\nThe chart-topping star shared: “Behind every experience in life, there\u2019s always a lesson, and we have to be grateful for all those lessons, even for the people that leave you with scars, because they just make us better.”<\/p>\n
\nShakira has enjoyed huge success in her career, becoming one of the world’s best-selling musicians. But Shakira now wishes she had more self-confidence during her younger years.<\/p>\n
\nThe She Wolf hitmaker – who has sons Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11, with Pique – said: “I would say to that girl back in her 20s to enjoy more, to believe in herself more. <\/p>\n
\n“I think women, as time goes by, we just acquire this new confidence. Even though we don\u2019t look as perfect as in our 20s, it\u2019s beautiful to just be yourself and accept who you are.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, Shakira previously described monogamy as a “utopia”.<\/p>\n
\nThe Whenever, Wherever hitmaker still believes in love, despite suffering heartbreak in her personal life.<\/p>\n
\nShakira told Marie Claire UK: “I cannot say that I don\u2019t believe in love because I see the example of my parents after 50 years together; how they look into each other\u2019s eyes and hold hands and can\u2019t live apart from each other. I\u2019ve witnessed love, I just haven\u2019t been that lucky myself. <\/p>\n
\n“Monogamy is a utopia. But I\u2019ve been compensated in other ways, with the love of my fans and my children and true friends. <\/p>\n
\n“Oscar Wilde said that friendship is the purest form of love and I think that\u2019s true. It lasts longer – at least in my experience. <\/p>\n
\n“My relationship [lasted] 12 years but my friends will be there a lifetime. When hardship came, that\u2019s when I learned how truly important friendship was.”<\/p>\n
