The Rascal Flatts frontman<\/a> and Tara tied the knot in 1999, going on to welcome two daughters. More than 20 years into their union, the couple were still head over heels<\/a> for one another.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Our secret is] just keeping God in the center of our marriage,\u201d the \u201cLife Is a Highway\u201d singer exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in October 2022. \u201cTruly that\u2019s the main thing [because] we can screw it up a lot when it\u2019s just us trying to handle everything. So just keeping God at the center of our marriage has been the anchor point for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, Gary reassured Us<\/em> that he was \u201cabsolutely\u201d just as romantic as he was<\/a> in the beginning of the duo\u2019s relationship, giving a glimpse at how they spend a typical date night. \u201cLittle Olive Garden on a Wednesday? Come on,\u201d he teased. \u201cOh, yeah. Little Baskin Robbins? You ready? You ain\u2019t ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ohio native went on to describe how he and Tara balanced parenting responsibilities<\/a> while he was on the road. \u201cJust because of [my] work and stuff, Tara was always like, \u2018You know, you cannot come home [from touring] and just be the good cop,’\u201d the \u201cGet Down Like That\u201d performer explained. \u201cBut, you know, dads are different because, like, it doesn\u2019t take so much energy for us to correct our children than it does for moms. I can look at them or something and go, \u2018Are you serious?\u2019 And [they say], \u2018I\u2019m so sorry,\u2019 whereas Tara would have to sit there and talk for 30 minutes on why it was wrong and they\u2019ll go, \u2018OK, I know. Gosh, I get it.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Grammy nominee<\/a>, his outlook on relationships was impacted by his parents\u2019 divorce<\/a>, which occurred when he was 8 years old. His mother remarried but ultimately split from Gary\u2019s stepdad after nearly 10 years. \u201cI was shattered. I wanted a father,\u201d he told Reader\u2019s Digest<\/em> in 2009. \u201cLiving through divorce has made me a better husband and father. I may not be the best looking guy in the world, but my wife and kids love me for who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unlike his marriage, Gary\u2019s bond with his bandmates \u2014 Jay DeMarcus<\/strong> and Joe Don Rooney<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 has faltered. In January 2020, Rascal Flatts announced that they would be disbanding after 22 years<\/a> and had a farewell tour in the works. The dates were later canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>, and the group officially went their separate ways in 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t talk as much \u2026 \u2019cause, you know, we\u2019re not doing business together,\u201d Gary told Us<\/em> in October 2022. \u201cWe wish each other the best \u2026 [I] want nothing but the best for those two and, you know, hopefully everything\u2019s happy and healthy and their families are good. \u2026 I don\u2019t know what the future holds but, you know, for now I\u2019m just having a blast and \u2026 I think Jay and Joe Don are doing their thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
