\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Karamo Brown<\/strong><\/a> is sharing the painful reality behind years of speculation about his appearance.<\/p>\n The 45-year-old Queer Eye<\/em> star revealed in a new People<\/a><\/em> cover story that a 2021 buccal fat removal procedure led to years of chronic pain, swelling, and complications caused by scar tissue and blocked saliva glands. Karamo<\/strong> says he kept his struggles private while facing constant online commentary about his looks.<\/p>\n \u201cFor years, people have been like, \u2018Karamo<\/strong>\u2018s had plastic surgery. He has so much filler in his face,’\u201d he shared. \u201cI was like, \u2018You know what? I can\u2019t say anything because you can\u2019t get into fights with the trolls.\u2019 But I was suffering for years in pain and no one knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n According to him, he decided to undergo the cosmetic procedure after gaining about 70 pounds during the COVID-19 pandemic and feeling self-conscious about his appearance.<\/p>\n \u201cI was a big boy, and everyone online liked to tell me how much of a big boy I was,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, I was like, \u2018Okay, maybe if I slim out my face, I\u2019ll be cute.\u2019 It turned into a year-and-a-half of pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Karamo<\/strong> says scar tissue formed in his cheeks following the procedure, preventing saliva from draining properly and causing painful swelling.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019d be times you\u2019d see me smile, and it was tight,\u201d he says. \u201cMy cheeks would be big because they were full of saliva, full of scar tissue. I was in the worst pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n When he launched The Karamo Show<\/em> in 2022, he said the physical symptoms became hard to manage while he was filming and sometimes he would \u201cshoot six episodes a day\u201d but there would be times when he was filming that his mouth \u201cwould get so dry and it would be so swollen.\u201d<\/p>\n He later worked to lose 70 pounds during season two because it made the scar issue less visible.<\/p>\n \u201cThe scar tissue and the saliva were still there, but because I was skinnier, it looked kind of normal,\u201d he says. \u201cI stopped eating because it helped the feeling of not having so much scar tissue.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n One of the main reasons he\u2019s opening up about his experience now is in the hopes that it will help other people.<\/p>\n \u201cI know there\u2019s other people suffering with their chronic pain,\u201d he says. \u201cI was fortunate enough to have the resources to find somebody who could help me, but I want to tell people that you don\u2019t have to suffer alone.
