Euphoria<\/em><\/a> fans have a lot of thoughts about what was ultimately the HBO show\u2019s final episode.<\/p>\n

Creator Sam Levinson<\/strong> and HBO officially confirmed on Sunday, May 31, that the fan-favorite series would not return<\/a> following the nearly two-hour-long season 3 finale.<\/p>\n

The episode, which still left some things open-ended, killed off main character Rue (Zendaya<\/strong>) with fentanyl-laced pills<\/a> after it was revealed to Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje<\/strong>) that she had been working with the DEA. Rue\u2019s sponsor and father figure Ali (Coleman Domingo<\/strong>) went after Alamo, ultimately killing him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe honest ending is that people like Rue don\u2019t make it,\u201d Levinson, 41, said in a behind-the-scenes interview<\/a> that aired after the episode on Sunday. \u201cPeople relapse and they f*** up. They\u2019re not ready to get clean. And they weren\u2019t dying like they are now with the influx of fentanyl into this country.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI could say with absolute certainty that if I was going through what I went through when I was younger now then I wouldn\u2019t be here either.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tEuphoria took a huge risk killing off a main character in the season 3 finale \u2014 and now Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is speaking out about possible backlash. Akinnuoye-Agbaje, 58, addressed his character Alamo being involved in Rue\u2019s (Zendaya) death, exclusively telling Us Weekly at the MPTF NextGen Summer Party, which was presented by Delta Air Lines [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Some fans didn\u2019t quite agree with his assessment of the story.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter today I never wanna see Sam Levinson touch a story about addiction ever again matter of fact never let him write or direct ever again,\u201d one X user wrote on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Levinson doubled down on Rue\u2019s death, adding in the HBO behind-the-scenes featurette that she had an \u201chonest ending.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the end, I wanted to tell an honest story about addiction,\u201d he added. \u201cI also wanted to tell a story about grief and the emotional turmoil that it can create.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some social media users agreed with this sentiment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIncredible episode of television. Wild ride start to finish,\u201d an X user shared. \u201cAmazing acting from three cast members. Sam Levinson should never write again.\u201d<\/p>\n

A second person noted, \u201cEveryone\u2019s mad at Sam Levinson for killing off Rue in what could be the final season of \u2018Euphoria\u2019 and I\u2019m just sitting here thanking him because he actually had the guts to finally do it. Not everyone is getting a happy ending, that\u2019s the way it should be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Positive reactions to Sunday\u2019s finale were few and far between on social media. While some were upset with Rue\u2019s death, others were confused by the overall tone that the final episode took on.<\/p>\n
