Mackenzie Phillips<\/strong><\/a> is lifting the lid on her time as a child actor.<\/p>\n

Phillips, 66, recently claimed to Fox News<\/a> that she and costar Valerie Bertinelli<\/strong><\/a> used cocaine on the set of One Day at a Time<\/em>, the hit Norman Lear<\/strong> sitcom in which they played teenage sisters Julie and Barbara Cooper.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo this might surprise you that during lunch break, Valerie and I would drive to my house, get in the pool, drink wine and snort coke,\u201d Phillips said in an interview published on Sunday, May 31.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut Valerie talks about it openly, so it\u2019s not like I\u2019m pulling her covers or anything,\u201d Phillips continued. \u201cThe thing was that \u2026 Valerie didn\u2019t have the kind of addiction that I had, she didn\u2019t have addiction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tValerie Bertinelli has experienced multiple loves in the public eye. The actress\u2019 most famous romance was, perhaps, her marriage to late rocker Eddie Van Halen. Bertinelli was married to the musician for more than two decades before they called it quits in 2007. Bertinelli spoke candidly about her relationship with Van Halen after watching their [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAnd you know, so we would do coke together in the dressing room and stuff,\u201d she said. \u201cI just happened to be the one that got caught. And thank God I got caught, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

Us Weekly<\/em> has reached out to Bertinelli\u2019s reps for comment.<\/p>\n

Phillips and Bertinelli starred on One Day at a Time<\/em>, which aired on CBS, from 1975 to 1984. The sitcom lasted nine seasons and over 200 episodes.<\/p>\n

During her time on the show, Phillips struggled with substance abuse and addiction, resulting in her being fired twice.<\/p>\n

Bertinelli, meanwhile, has candidly discussed her past drug use over the years.<\/p>\n

In 2024, Bertinelli said she got into drugs<\/a> after she \u201cfell in love\u201d with ex-husband Eddie Van Halen<\/strong>. She said the tumultuous relationship \u201crapidly declined into drugs, alcohol and infidelity. \u2026 Nothing that makes you feel loved, wanted and cared for. Nothing that screams \u2018soulmate,\u2019 that\u2019s for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bertinelli wed Van Halen in 1981. In her 2008 memoir Losing It<\/em>, the actress recalled cocaine being part of their nuptials.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe priest we tapped to perform the ceremony gave us questionnaires so he could get to know us better and offer more personal words. As we filled out the forms at home, we each held a little vial of cocaine,\u201d she wrote. \u201cNow, if you ask me, those are not two people who should be making decisions about the rest of their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
