Olivia Rodrigo<\/strong><\/a> isn\u2019t mincing words about a \u201cbloodsucker, famef\u2014ker\u201d on her new song, \u201cVampire\u201d \u2014 but can Joshua Bassett<\/strong><\/a> finally rest easy?<\/p>\n More than two years after going viral with her hit \u201cDrivers License,\u201d which spawned endless online discourse about a potential love triangle<\/a> between Rodrigo, Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter<\/strong><\/a>, the 20-year-old \u201cBrutal\u201d songstress dropped the first single from her sophomore album on Friday, June 30, and fans believe she has new inspiration.<\/p>\n Several signs point to Rodrigo penning \u201cVampire\u201d about DJ Zack Bia<\/strong><\/a>. \u201cI should\u2019ve known it was strange \/ You only come out at night \/ I used to think I was smart \/ But you made me look so naive,\u201d she sings in the chorus. \u201cThe way you sold me for parts \/ As you sunk your teeth into me, oh \/ Bloodsucker, famef\u2014ker \/ Bleeding me dry like a goddamn vampire.\u201d<\/p>\n While she was first spotted with Bia in April 2022, several reports suggest that they began hanging out around the time of the Super Bowl in February 2022. Us Weekly<\/em> confirmed in August 2022<\/a> that the pair had called it quits, which puts their romance at roughly six months.<\/p>\n \u201cI see the parties and the diamonds sometimes when I close my eyes \/ Six months of torture you sold as some forbidden paradise,\u201d the lyrics to \u201cVampire\u201d read. \u201cI loved you truly \/ You gotta laugh at the stupidity.\u201d<\/p>\n Shortly before Rodrigo started dating Bia, he was linked<\/a> to Madelyn Cline<\/strong><\/a>. (He confirmed on the \u201cBFFs\u201d podcast in January 2022 that he had been \u201changing out\u201d<\/a> with the Outer Banks<\/em> star, but they weren\u2019t \u201cofficially dating.\u201d<\/a>) In \u201cVampire,\u201d Rodrigo sings about an age difference \u2014 Bia is seven years older than her<\/a> \u2014 and notes another woman who is closer to his age. (Bia turned 27 earlier this month and Cline is 25.)<\/p>\n \u201cOh, what a mesmerizing, paralyzing, f\u2014ked up little thrill \/ Can\u2019t figure out just how you do it and God knows I never will \/ Went for me and not her \/ \u2018Cause girls your age know better,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n Rodrigo hasn\u2019t publicly addressed who she penned \u201cVampire\u201d about, but she said in an Apple Music interview that she wrote the track with her producer Dan Nigro<\/strong> in December 2022.<\/p>\n \u201cI wrote the song on the piano, super chill, in December of last year. And my producer Dan and I finished it in January and finished writing it,\u201d she explained. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve just always been really obsessed with songs that are very dynamic. My favorite songs are high and low, and reel you in and spit you back out. And so we wanted to do a song where it just crescendoed the entire time and it reflects the pent-up anger that you have for a situation.\u201d<\/p>\n While some fans have already flooded Bia\u2019s social media pages with shade \u2014 writing comments like, \u201cDo you only come out at night perhaps\u201d and \u201cWhat tf do you have in common with someone under 20?\u201d \u2014 other listeners are suggesting Rodrigo could be singing about ex Adam Faze<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n The Disney alum dated the producer for less than one year<\/a> \u2014 news of their split broke in February 2022, roughly seven months after they were seen together<\/a> for the first time in June 2021. (There are Twitter users suggesting June 30 could be the two-year anniversary of when their relationship started.) Like Bia, Faze, now 26, is older than Rodrigo. At the time of their romance, Rodrigo was 18.<\/p>\n It\u2019s also worth noting that Rodrigo is a self-proclaimed Twihard \u2014 and \u201cVampire\u201d could draw some inspiration from the Robert Pattinson<\/strong><\/a> and Kristen Stewart<\/strong><\/a> films rather than her real-life romances.<\/p>\n As the online chatter continues, Rodrigo prepares to drop her second album, Guts<\/em>,<\/a> on September 8. \u201cI had [the title picked out] actually when I was making Sour<\/em>. I\u2019m like, \u2018I want the next one to be Guts<\/em>.\u2019 I had it in my head. I\u2019m like, \u2018Four letters, all caps, just like Sour<\/em>.\u2019 I love it. I just think it\u2019s an interesting word. People use it in so many interesting contexts, like spill your guts. Hate your guts, I think is a really interesting term,\u201d she told Zane Lowe<\/strong>. \u201c[It] means bravery, but it also means intuition, like listen to your gut.
