Euphoria<\/em><\/a> took a huge risk killing off a main character in the season 3 finale \u2014 and now Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje<\/strong> is speaking out about possible backlash.<\/p>\n

Akinnuoye-Agbaje, 58, addressed his character Alamo being involved in Rue\u2019s (Zendaya<\/strong>) death<\/a>, exclusively telling Us Weekly<\/em> at the MPTF NextGen Summer Party, which was presented by Delta Air Lines and Waymo, \u201cLook, it\u2019s a voracious fan base. It\u2019s really their show. It preceded me. I\u2019ve done my part. Whatever they say and do is their part so that\u2019s where I leave it.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the Sunday, May 31, episode of the show, Alamo offered Rue some pain pills that turned out to be laced with fentanyl. This confirmed that Alamo intentionally gave Rue drugs that he knew she would relapse on \u2014 and that he planned to kill her<\/a> after he previously discovered she was working with the DEA to bring him down.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe beautiful thing about Euphoria is \u2014 first of all \u2014 this incredible performance that Zendaya has done. She narrates the show and we\u2019ve seen it largely through her perspective,\u201d the actor told Us at the annual fundraiser, which toasts Hollywood while rallying money for the Motion Picture & Television Fund in support of working and retired entertainment professionals.<\/p>\n

Akinnuoye-Agbaje noted that Euphoria<\/em> has a strong ensemble cast<\/a>, adding, \u201cOne of the beautiful things is that it opens it up to the perspective of so many of the other characters. Whether they\u2019re within Rue\u2019s group and vicinity, you have Laurie\u2019s gang and you have Alamo\u2019s gang and you have Rue\u2019s friends. There\u2019s room to explore those backstories, those relationships and those adventures that they would have.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThis is TV. There\u2019s always a world in which it could \u2014 if they wanted to \u2014 [they could explore the world more.] Whether they want to or not \u2026 I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the devastating ending for Rue, Akinnuoye-Agbaje praised creator Sam Levinson<\/strong><\/a> on his vision.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis season has been heavily influenced with religious themes about God and belief,\u201d he noted. \u201cAll of that came to bear in the final episode. It sums up the consequences of everyone\u2019s choices so you will see a reckoning. It\u2019s poetic and it\u2019s poignant. It\u2019s responsible as well in his artistry in the message that it\u2019s sending out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Akinnuoye-Agbaje went on to address how Rue\u2019s death set up Ali\u2019s (Colman Domingo<\/strong>) story of seeking revenge in her honor. This allowed for a Western-inspired sequence that left Alamo dead \u2014 but not before an epic standoff.<\/p>\n

\u201cSam\u2019s vision for this was heavily influenced by Western iconography. He was going to make this a Western style but with a modern take,\u201d he noted to Us<\/em>. \u201cIt was incredible how he interwove that with the narrative of the show and those characters that grew up building that narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n
