\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Three Heated Rivalry<\/strong><\/a><\/em> actors \u2013 Hudson Williams<\/strong><\/a>, Connor Storrie<\/strong><\/a> and Fran\u00e7ois Arnaud<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 have turned down Variety<\/em>\u2018s yearly Actors on Actors feature, and Ramin Setoodeh<\/strong>, co-editor-in-chief and co-president of the outlet, is explaining why in a column<\/a> published on Sunday (May 31).<\/p>\n \u201cIn all the years that I\u2019ve produced\u00a0Variety<\/em>\u2018s\u00a0Actors on Actors<\/a>\u00a0conversations, I\u2019ve resisted the temptation to divulge how exactly the sausage gets made,\u201d he began, before revealing the various reasons why he doesn\u2019t explain how the feature comes together behind-the-scenes.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m going to break my cardinal rule of Actors on Actors: I\u2019m going to talk about a few of the stars who got away\u2026sorry to disappoint, but we didn\u2019t include any of the actors from Heated Rivalry.<\/em> And it was not for a lack of trying,\u201d Ramin<\/strong> admitted.<\/p>\n \u201cI invited all three of the breakout actors from the groundbreaking series about gay hockey players to participate: the extraordinary Connor Storrie<\/strong>, the charming Hudson Williams <\/strong>and the magnetic Fran\u00e7ois Arnaud<\/strong>,\u201d he said, while praising their talent and superstardom.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd yet, they turned us down. I\u2019m certain they would have accepted the invitation if not for one key fact: Heated Rivalry <\/em>isn\u2019t eligible for this year\u2019s Emmys due to a rule technicality. Since it\u2019s made by Bell Media\u2019s Crave, a Canadian streamer (airing in the U.S. on HBO Max), the show and its stars weren\u2019t submitted for consideration, and as a result, the actors aren\u2019t campaigning right now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile Actors on Actors isn\u2019t only about winning awards\u2026the conversations are published in\u00a0Variety<\/em>\u00a0during the early days of Emmy Phase One voting \u2014 and so, it\u2019s perfectly timed to help with the nomination process.\u201d<\/p>\n Ramin<\/strong> went on to ponder how their inability to be nominated at the Emmys might have played into turning down the invite.<\/p>\n \u201cPerhaps the stars were worried it would look presumptuous to take part in a campaign event for an award they categorically could not win. But the Emmys need Heated Rivalry<\/em> more than Heated Rivalry<\/em> needs the Emmys. It\u2019s a genuine hit \u2014 not just among its core audience, but among casual TV viewers who swooned for its steamy romance and its carefully wrought character development,\u201d he wrote, noting the Emmys will feel \u201cstrange\u201d without acknowledging the series to due to its eligibility rules.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI can only imagine the long line of veteran actors who would have agreed to sit across from three of Hollywood\u2019s most exciting new stars.
