Sheriff Country<\/em> is returning<\/a> for season 2 \u2014 but is everyone from the cast coming back?<\/p>\n

The town of Edgewater was originally introduced when Fire Country<\/em><\/a> premiered in 2022 with inmate Bode (Max Thieriot<\/strong>) returning home and volunteering for the California Conservation Camp Program during season 1 of the hit show. By season 2, a backdoor pilot set up the world of Sheriff Country<\/em>, which is centered around<\/a> Sharon\u2019s (Diane Farr<\/strong>) estranged sister Mickey (Morena Baccarin<\/strong>) as she solves crimes in town.<\/p>\n

CBS was quick to renew Sheriff Country in December 2025 after its success on the network. According to a press release, Sheriff Country<\/em> has averaged 7.6 million viewers and is \u201cconsistently a time period winner\u201d for Friday nights at 8 P.M.<\/p>\n

The first season wrapped up in May 2026<\/a> with a shocking episode that revealed Deputy Director of the DEA \u2014 Eva (Rachel Ticotin<\/strong>) \u2014 as Mickey\u2019s mother who was presumed dead.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re told in the pilot of season 1 that Mickey\u2019s mother is dead and it\u2019s quite clear she\u2019s dead. She\u2019s not part of the picture. One of the writers pitched it to me relatively early in season 1 [that she was secretly alive], and I dismissed it,\u201d showrunner Matt Lopez exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em>. \u201cOver the course of the season, more and more writers started to get on board. I was a fairly late convert because I don\u2019t want to just turn over a card to turn over a card. If it gives us really good story and reveals something about the characters we care about and it\u2019s grounded in real human emotion then I\u2019m interested.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lopez is excited to unpack that in season 2.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt resets our family dynamic that\u2019s at the heart of this show,\u201d he teased. \u201cAnd it addresses all the interesting character wrinkles that it gave us to play. We\u2019ll see in the early episodes, Wes thinks he and Mickey are on the same page that they were both betrayed by this woman. Mickey isn\u2019t as on board and in some ways you can make the case that Wes\u2019 betrayal was worse. We\u2019ll unpack all of this.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cShe hasn\u2019t been part of the picture since Mickey was like 5 or 6 years old and who owes Mickey a bigger debt of gratitude? Wes believed she was dead and we will unspool that whole story of what went into that decision to essentially stage her death. It\u2019s really fun and it\u2019s got a lot of delicious turns to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking ahead at the show\u2019s future, Lopez said the return will \u201csubvert expectations,\u201d<\/a> adding, \u201cThere is a time jump but then we will fill in like what happened in the scene that we didn\u2019t see. The emotional aftershocks are going to last much more than an episode and we\u2019ve set up this incredible dynamic where Mickey\u2019s essentially barely speaking to her father and now their handler is the woman who Mickey has thought was dead for the last 30 years. It\u2019s got a great sort of engine out the gate.\u201d<\/p>\n
