Better yet, it\u2019s haunting, leaving behind lingering shivers and ongoing anxieties. It\u2019s smart, \u2018elevated\u2019 horror for the tired-of-slashers crowd, but it has plenty of slasher shocks as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Bloody Disgusting<\/em> gave it 3.5 out of 5, writing: \u201cWhile the journey ultimately loses steam by its cryptic end, <strong>Parsons<\/strong>\u2019 visual representation of the human psyche disturbs like no other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The LA Times says: \u201cDescribing <em>Backrooms<\/em> as a horror film doesn\u2019t feel exactly right. It\u2019s a surrealist painting in motion, the equivalent of staring at Salvador Dali\u2019s wasteland of melting clocks until it makes gut-sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em> says: \u201cAmbiguity is key to this style of horror, where space and atmosphere do most of the heavy lifting, and though the story isn\u2019t over-explained, mind you, it\u2019s filled out enough to break its own uncanny spell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The<em> London Evening Standard<\/em> gives it 4 out of 5 and says: \u201c<strong>Ejiofor i<\/strong>s absolutely brilliant, but it\u2019s a shame that <strong>Reinsve<\/strong> (so good in <em>Sentimental Value <\/em>and <em>The Worst Person in the World<\/em>) seems a touch miscast. Pretty much any B-list US horror star could have slotted into her role.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>TheWrap says: \u201cIf this movie was nothing but a sightseeing tour of disquieting office buildings <strong>Parsons<\/strong> probably could have gotten away with it. But the more <em>Backrooms<\/em> tries to have a point, the more pointless it feels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Irish Times<\/em> gave it a 4.5 out of 5, writing: \u201c[<em>Backrooms<\/em>] succeeds where other creepypasta adaptations (take a bow, <em>Slender Man<\/em>) have dismally failed and requires no prior knowledge of its storied history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Telegraph<\/em> gave it 5 out of 5, writing: \u201c<em>Backrooms <\/em>could have taken any number of sabotaging turns, or undercut itself with effects (excess gore, say) that aren\u2019t needed. Instead it builds with clear logic, solid acting, and doesn\u2019t skimp on being suggestive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Australian <\/em>gave it 4 out of 5, writing: \u201cIt feels like cinema\u2019s future. Leaner, tighter filmmaking, saturated in web-lore rather than cinema-lore.
