\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Gayle King<\/strong><\/a> is sharing her thoughts on her ex William Bumpus<\/strong>\u2018 recent public apology for cheating on her almost 40 years ago. <\/p>\n The 71-year-old news anchor and the attorney were married for eleven years, from 1982 to 1993, and share two children together. <\/p>\n Earlier this week, while appearing on Call Her Daddy<\/em>, Gayle<\/strong> opened up about the cheating that happened when he hooked up with a close friend of hers. She found out as she came home from the airport earlier than expected and found him in a towel. He then confessed someone was there and she charged in to find her friend. <\/p>\n After the episode, William<\/strong> issued an apology, telling TMZ<\/a><\/em>, \u201cMy deepest apologies to Gayle<\/strong>, to our daughter\u00a0Kirby\u00a0<\/strong>and her husband,\u00a0Virgil<\/strong>, to our son\u00a0William\u00a0<\/strong>and his wife,\u00a0Elise<\/strong>, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago. Those actions were mine. I have long owned them \u2014 including publicly in my own words in 2016, which still stand.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that she has every right to talk about a \u201cpainful chapter\u201d in her life that changed their marriage and says he\u2019s \u201cendlessly grateful\u201d to her. <\/p>\n The next morning, Gayle<\/strong> reacted to his apology, noting she was surprised he said something. <\/p>\n \u201cI did not know he was going to do it,\u201d she told TMZ<\/em> <\/a>on Thursday (May 28). \u201cWhen I got up this morning and read it, I was very, very surprised. He didn\u2019t say anything to me about it, but I\u2019m very appreciative.\u201d<\/p>\n She also said she was surprised that the outlet \u201cfound him\u201d as he is notoriously a private person. <\/p>\n Gayle<\/strong> said she was shocked \u201che was even talking because he never talks. So I was surprised, but I can also say I appreciated what he had to say. That was a very painful time.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnyone who has been through it knows how painful it is,\u201d she added. \u201cBut I also know that you can go through it and get through it on the other side. This happened so long ago that we have both healed and we\u2019ve both moved on. And the reason why I can talk about it so candidly is because it has been so much time that has passed.
