Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are good friends<\/p>\n

The 39-year-old actress and Ariana, 32, starred together in the money-spinning Wicked film franchise, and Cynthia has revealed that they remain close friends, despite speculation to the contrary.<\/p>\n

The London-born star – who played Elphaba in the Wicked movies – told Variety: “I think that people didn\u2019t really believe that we were actually friends. But that\u2019s also because people don\u2019t know me very well. If I\u2019m a friend, then I\u2019m a friend. If I\u2019m not, then I\u2019m not.”<\/p>\n

The movie star insisted that the public’s perception of their friendship doesn’t chime with the reality.<\/p>\n

Cynthia – who also starred in the Wicked films alongside Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Michelle Yeoh<\/a>, and Jeff Goldblum – said: “It\u2019s very interesting, watching what people\u2019s perception is versus what the reality actually is.<\/p>\n

\n“Lots of psychologists seated at home deciding who we were, what we were going through, what we were doing and why.”<\/p>\n

\nCynthia previously revealed that she “made a pact” with Ariana before shooting the Wicked movies.<\/p>\n

\nThe actress explained that they “committed to protecting and caring for each other” through their Wicked experience.<\/p>\n

\nIn her book, Simply More: A Book for Anyone Who Has Been Told They\u2019re Too Much, Cynthia explained: “Before Wicked really started rolling, Ariana and I made a pact with each other.<\/p>\n

\n“We committed to protecting and caring for each other through this process. We hear often how female co-stars \u2014\u00ad or really, any co-stars \u2014\u00ad can sometimes let their egos get in the way until they battle each other, destroying the creative process for everyone involved. We were determined to do the opposite.”<\/p>\n

\nCynthia believes she shares a “strong synergy” with her co-star, who has become a close friend in recent years.<\/p>\n

\nThe actress – who has enjoyed significant success on stage and screen – said: “We were always looking out for each other. Our partnership was important. We shared a strong synergy, a commitment to authenticity, and that, combined with the natural connection we fostered both on and off set, allowed us to support each other emotionally and professionally.”<\/p>\n
