The subscriptions will \u201clikely\u201d cost between $4 to $7 per month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">For fans of Narwhal, the update should come as a relief \u2014 especially given that Harrison was not as optimistic about the app\u2019s future <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/getnarwhal\/comments\/13xskqh\/narwhal_update_about_reddit_api_pricing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the beginning of this month<\/a>. In an email to <em>The Verge<\/em>, he shared more details about how he will be keeping the app alive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">\u201cThe main thing that changed between the beginning of June and now is mostly coming to terms with the changes,\u201d Harrison says. \u201cNarwhal is going through massive changes in order to continue.\u201d Harrison confirmed that every user will be required to have a subscription to use the app, though there will \u201clikely\u201d be a thirty to sixty-minute trial when you first download the app. He added that Narwhal 2 represents a \u201ccomplete rewrite,\u201d with an updated design and new functionality.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">As for costs, they will scale \u201cper user, so I don\u2019t technically need any,\u201d Harrison says. And he plans to measure API calls per user over the next few weeks to help figure out the final subscription price. However, Harrison declined to answer if he had worked out some kind of deal with Reddit. The developer of MultiTab for Reddit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/MultiTabApp\/comments\/14kvgib\/preparing_reddit_api_changes_and_more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said that<\/a> they are increasing the price of the app\u2019s subscriptions to $2.99 per month or $6.99 per year. A couple weeks ago, the developer of the Android app Infinity for Reddit said they planned to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Infinity_For_Reddit\/comments\/147bhsg\/the_future_of_infinity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">make it a subscription-only app<\/a>, and they reiterated that was the plan in a DM conversation with <em>The Verge <\/em>on Thursday. They estimate the subscription will cost $3, but also said that if things don\u2019t work out and the app has to be removed from Google Play, users will be able to get it from GitHub.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The developer of Relay for Reddit said earlier this month that the app may survive but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/6\/12\/23758616\/reddit-app-survive-paid-subscription-relay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">only with a paid subscription<\/a>. And RedReader, Dystopia, and Luna will remain available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/6\/7\/23752804\/reddit-exempt-accessibility-apps-api-pricing-changes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">after receiving accessibility exemptions<\/a>. Depending on when you read this, however, you may have just a bit more time to be able to use them. Apollo developer Christian Selig tells <em>The Verge<\/em> he plans to turn things off for the app a few hours before July 1st.
