Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong><\/a> is speaking out against Spencer Pratt<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s bid to become L.A. mayor.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, May 27, Kimmel, 58, devoted a large segment of his opening monologue<\/a> on Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em><\/a> to lambast Pratt\u2019s political ambitions, drawing parallels to President Donald Trump<\/strong> segueing from reality television to the White House.<\/p>\n

Pratt entered the mayoral race against the incumbent Mayor Karen Bass<\/strong> in the aftermath of the 2025 California wildfires, in which he and his wife Heidi Montag<\/strong> of The Hills<\/em><\/a> fame lost their Pacific Palisades home<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Kimmel acknowledged that Pratt, 42, is \u201cunderstandably upset about his house burning down\u201d but argued that doesn\u2019t qualify him to run for office.<\/p>\n

Exactly one year after a wildfire burned down his family\u2019s home in Pacific Palisades, California, Pratt announced that he was running for mayor of Los Angeles. \u201cThe system in Los Angeles isn\u2019t struggling; it\u2019s fundamentally broken,\u201d Pratt said at the \u201cThey Let Us [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cSince he\u2019s a moderately famous person, he gets attention. He\u2019s on the news. He\u2019s on social media. For the first time in his life, people are agreeing with what he has to say. It\u2019s hard not to agree with what he has to say,\u201d the comedian said. \u201cHe\u2019s angry about the same problems a lot of people here are angry about. Does he have solutions to those problems? No. But at least he\u2019s acknowledging that they are problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel continued, \u201cSo, then this angry reality star \u2014 who grew up wealthy and popular and is not very wealthy or popular anymore \u2014 really starts to enjoy the attention. He starts to think, \u2018I should be mayor,\u2019 which is a statement that should make everyone laugh. But not everyone is laughing. Not everyone sees this as a joke. Right now, if you believe the polls, 22% of them are going, \u2018You know what? You should be mayor.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel likened Pratt\u2019s desire to run for office to Trump\u2019s political aspirations when he announced he was running for president in 2015.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s a character,\u201d Trump, 79, told reporters on Wednesday, May 20, per a video shared via social media. \u201cI assume he probably supports me.\u201d Trump asked a person off-camera whether they knew [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cYou think this guy wants to sit through city council meetings all day talking about zoning? No, he wants to be a star again,\u201d the late night host alleged. \u201cAnd guess what? It\u2019s working. He\u2019s everywhere. People show up to see him speak. He\u2019s doing interviews. He\u2019s making deals for a new reality show. It\u2019s exactly what Donald Trump did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel claimed that \u201cDonald Trump ran for president because his TV show was going to get canceled and he wanted to be relevant again,\u201d referring to former NBC reality show The Apprentice<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, the difference between Donald Trump and this guy is Donald Trump actually had a job before he was on a reality show,\u201d he quipped. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t good at the job. He got all the money for it from his dad. The only thing he was good at was promoting himself, and it turned out that was enough. And as a result, we are now going to have to spend the next three decades digging out of this giant hole he put us in.\u201d<\/p>\n
