The supernatural universe is expanding! Mayfair Witches<\/em> is the second installment in AMC\u2019s Immortal Universe<\/em> franchise \u2014 and it shares a few connections to the network\u2019s Interview With the Vampire<\/em> series<\/a>.<\/p>\n Like Interview, Mayfair Witches is based on books by the late Anne Rice, who died at age 80 in December 2021. The show follows Dr. Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario<\/strong><\/a>), a neurosurgeon who learns she is the heiress of a powerful family of witches. The cast also includes Harry Hamlin<\/strong><\/a> as patriarch Cortland Mayfair, Jack Huston<\/strong> as the sinister spirit Lasher and Tongayi Chirisa<\/strong> as Ciprien Grieve, a new character created for the show.<\/p>\n Daddario hadn\u2019t read anything by Rice before taking on the role, but she knew that fans would have high expectations for the show. \u201cI\u2019ve been part of book adaptations and I\u2019m well aware, as an avid reader myself, fans have a deep love of the story and characters and want it to be true to the books,\u201d the White Lotus<\/em><\/a> alum told The A.V. Club<\/em><\/a> earlier this month, adding that she ultimately read Lives of the Mayfair Witches<\/em> before and during filming. \u201cThe idea is to go in with the best intentions and try to be true to the story; it\u2019s why they\u2019re adapted in the first place. It\u2019s how we approached it.\u201d<\/p>\n The Baywatch<\/em> actress went on to reveal that a crossover with Interview<\/em> is an \u201cintention,\u201d but hinted that fans shouldn\u2019t expect it in season 1. The first episode of Interview<\/em>, however, included a brief nod to Mayfair<\/em>.<\/p>\n In the premiere, Grace de Pointe du Lac (Kalyne Coleman<\/strong>) gets upset when her brother Paul (Steven Norfleet<\/strong>) teases her about engaging in the folk tradition of \u201cjumping the broom\u201d at her wedding. Paul tells her there are \u201cplenty of brooms down the street at the Mayfair sisters\u2019 home,\u201d which gets a laugh from Louis (Jacob Anderson<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n Both Interview<\/em> and Mayfair<\/em> are set in New Orleans, though they take place in different time periods: Louis\u2019 story begins in the 1910s, while Rowan\u2019s tale unfolds in the present day. Though Mayfair does not feature any cameos by Interview characters in its inaugural season, it will likely reference details first mentioned in Rice\u2019s Vampire Chronicles<\/em> book series<\/a>.<\/p>\n Chirisa\u2019s character, Ciprien, is a combination of the book characters Aaron and Michael. Aaron was a member of the Order of the Talamasca, a secret society founded to keep track of paranormal beings that was first introduced in The Queen of the Damned<\/em> (book three of The Vampire Chronicles<\/em>).<\/p>\n The first season of Interview<\/em> ended midway through the action of the first book, but it\u2019s already been renewed for season 2<\/a> \u2014 and the interview portions between Louis and Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian<\/strong>) are already set in the present day.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that connection is the intention of the network and the creators of this world, but it\u2019s one step at a time,\u201d Daddario told Screen Rant<\/em><\/a> earlier this month. \u201cThis show really stands on its own, while also being vaguely in the same world in order to be potentially combined in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n![\"How](\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/shutterstock_editorial_13443577e.jpg?w=700&quality=86&strip=all\")
