Patti LaBelle<\/a> has insisted she feels \u201cbetter\u201d aged 82 than she did when she was younger – and it\u2019s all down to her \u201cliving it down\u201d approach. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n

The American singer turned 82 on Sunday, and opened up to CBS News\u2019 Tracy Smith about how she\u2019s coping these days. <\/p>\n
Patti replied: \u201cThis is a better life for me now at 82. I feel better – not physically maybe, with my knees – but I feel good. <\/p>\n
\u201cI feel settled, I feel as though I don\u2019t have to do anything else, I don\u2019t have to climb, I don\u2019t have a thing to prove. Nothing to prove, no, to nobody but myself. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m settled at this place that I\u2019m in, I don\u2019t have to do more. I\u2019m just very easy right here, in the space that I\u2019m in right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nPatti added that while she had a no-holds barred party for her 80th, she went for a quieter celebration last year, and is also planning to \u201cchill\u201d for her big day this year too. <\/p>\n
\nThe Lady Marmalade singer continued the interview to urge people not to let their age make them \u201cnervous\u201d. <\/p>\n
\nShe continued: \u201cAge is a number and it\u2019s a graduation. I\u2019m really living it down, not up, but I\u2019m really having fun living it down. I play cards, and nights that Ia cook for everybody and we watch movies. I don\u2019t do much, I\u2019m kind of boring, but I love that.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nDespite her advancing years, Patti insisted she doesn\u2019t have any intention of retiring from the stage, as she was \u201cborn singing\u201d. <\/p>\n
\nShe explained: \u201cSinging is my life. I\u2019m happy to say I\u2019m still standing, I\u2019m still working. <\/p>\n
\nit\u2019s something that I have to do.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI was born singing. I love to do shows, I love meet and greets. I just love what I do, and I\u2019m so happy to be in this place at this time in my life. \u201c<\/p>\n
\nAs for what has kept fans coming back to see Patti year upon year, she said she thinks it\u2019s because its quite a \u201cfancy\u201d dress. <\/p>\n
\nHowever, it seems that Patti\u2019s determination to stick to the rules has also earned her some followers. <\/p>\n
\nShe laughed: \u201cI don\u2019t do drugs. I drink red wine occasionally and that\u2019s about it. I\u2019m a very quiet person. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt\u2019s a blessing that people still come to see Patti LaBelle.\u201d<\/p>\n
