Since then, Grogu has evolved quite a bit from a mysterious child hidden by bounty hunters into an integral part of the Star Wars<\/em> universe.<\/p>\n When Grogu first showed up in The Mandalorian<\/em>, Lucasfilm kept the character\u2019s identity a secret. Because the species looked similar to Jedi Master Yoda, people online gave him the \u201cBaby Yoda\u201d nickname.<\/p>\n The nickname exploded across social media, spawning countless memes and reaction GIFs, plus plenty of merch. Even though it has been years since the Disney+ series premiered, many people still refer to Grogu as Baby Yoda, despite his real name getting revealed in season 2.<\/p>\n Most importantly of all, however, is that Grogu is not actually Yoda as a baby<\/strong>, nor is Grogu confirmed to be directly related to him, though there are still plenty of rumors and theories floating around online dissecting the possibility.<\/p>\n According to the series, Grogu was born the same year Anakin Skywalker and spent time training at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant before surviving Order 66 with the help of Kelleran Beq. During the events of the show, Grogu becomes closely bonded to bounty hunter Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Over the course of the Disney+ series, Din Djarin essentially becomes Grogu\u2019s adoptive father, and even formally adopts him<\/a> at the end of season 3 as his apprentice.
