President Donald Trump has delayed signing an executive order that would allow the government to evaluate AI models before they\u2019re released.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Trump claimed he is not happy with the language of the order: \u201cI didn\u2019t like certain aspects of it,\u201d he told the White House press pool. \u201cWe\u2019re leading China, we\u2019re leading everybody, and I don\u2019t want to do anything that\u2019s going to get in the way of that leading.\u201d<\/p>\n
The unofficial reason: Not enough tech CEOs could make it to Washington, D.C. on short notice, according to several<\/a> reports<\/a>. And what\u2019s an executive order signing without a photo op?<\/p>\n The anticipated executive order would have tasked the Office of the National Cyber Director and other agencies with developing a process to evaluate AI models for security before their release. This is partly in response to concerns from the release of Anthropic\u2019s Mythos and OpenAI\u2019s GPT-5.5 Cyber \u2014 both of which can quickly find and exploit security vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n One of the key sticking points in the EO\u2019s language, per CNN<\/a>, is a proposed requirement for AI companies to share advanced models with the government between 14 and 90 days ahead of launch.\u00a0<\/p>\n Trump said he was concerned that the EO\u2019s language today \u201ccould have been a blocker.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
