Survivor<\/em><\/a> host Jeff Probst<\/strong><\/a> scrambled to quell a backlash among viewers after he accidentally spoiled a challenge result during the season 50<\/a> finale.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love doing live television,\u201d Probst, 64, joked as he tried to explain himself during the live finale on Wednesday, May 20.<\/p>\n

Moments earlier, viewers watched Aubry Bracco<\/strong> win the final immunity challenge and then save Joe Hunter<\/strong>, thereby sending Rizo Velovic<\/strong> and Jonathan Young<\/strong> into the fire-making challenge by default. (The iconic fire-making challenge was used to determine who would join Bracco, 40, and Hunter, 46, in the climactic Tribal Council.)<\/p>\n

In one of the finale\u2019s live segments, Probst called over Velovic, 26, to chat about how intimidating the fire-making challenge can be.<\/p>\n

Probst was throwing to a commercial break when he off-handedly referred to Velovic as \u201cthe final member of our jury.\u201d The host seemed confused and the audience fell silent, as Probst had mistakenly spoiled the result of the fire-making challenge before it aired.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat just happened?\u201d Probst asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey haven\u2019t seen the fire,\u201d one contestant shouted, with Velovic clarifying, \u201cFire hasn\u2019t happened yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

The audience started to groan as Probst admitted, \u201cI\u2019m not even sure what happened but up next, we\u2019re going to have one final surprise for the players.\u201d<\/p>\n

Survivor<\/em> fans were aghast that Probst had accidentally spoiled one of the most anticipated challenges in the show\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

What do you mean it\u2019s live with NO DELAY.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another fan was equally as disappointed, writing<\/a>, \u201cJeff spoiling his own show\u2026 oh grandpa it\u2019s time for bed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJeff intentionally spoiling the outcome at the live reunion so that he\u2019ll never have to do another one ever again,\u201d a third viewer joked<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Once Survivor<\/em> came back from a commercial break, Probst tried to explain to viewers exactly what went wrong.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn case you\u2019re confused, this is what happened,\u201d he began. \u201cWe were going to show you fire-making and then have the loser of fire-making, Rizo, come out and talk about if he had practiced fire-making maybe he would\u2019ve won. Instead, we did a Survivor<\/em> twist, it\u2019s the last twist of the season. We call it, \u2018A peek into the future.\u2019 So now, we\u2019re going to watch Rizo lose in a fire to Jonathan.\u201d<\/p>\n

The error reignited speculation among fans via social media over whether it might be time for Probst to retire as Survivor<\/em> host after 50 seasons.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> ahead of the launch of season 50, Probst said that he hoped to remain involved with Survivor<\/em> for a long time to come.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe stay inside the tiny little box that is the format of Survivor, but once you step inside that tiny little box, you realize the space is enormous,\u201d Probst explained. \u201cYou can try all kinds of things. So, for instance, if you hired a different type of person to host, and then you brought in a different type of person to produce, and you took their different points of view, it seems likely that the show would go in a completely different direction.\u201d<\/p>\n
