Hayden Panettiere<\/strong><\/a> discussed her sexuality at length in her debut memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cGirls were much more my speed,\u201d Panettiere, 36, wrote in the book<\/a>, published on Tuesday, May 19. \u201cGirls made me feel welcome \u2026 and also a little bit turned on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Panettiere revealed in the book that she first experimented with a girl at around 8 or 9 years old, writing that her dad walked in on them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want anything to disturb my parents, period. I\u2019ve also never told the public I\u2019ve been with women,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI say \u2018been with women\u2019 because I haven\u2019t fallen in love or had anything beyond sexual relationships with any, though I suppose that could happen someday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Panettiere continued, \u201cI have been attracted to women just as long as I\u2019ve been attracted to men.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress wrote that she didn\u2019t want to publicly discuss her sexuality until she had \u201cthe confidence and trust\u201d in herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the sake of your mental health, your relationships with others and your path forward in life, it\u2019s so important to be comfortable with who you are,\u201d she wrote. \u201cNo matter who you\u2019re attracted to or where your hands end up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Panettiere told Us Weekly<\/em> exclusively in her cover story earlier this month that she identifies as bisexual.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time it even crossed my mind to touch on this subject was while I was in the process of writing this book,\u201d she shared. \u201cIt took two years to write this book, and I did not know what I was going to feel comfortable touching on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Panettiere took a \u201cwhy not?\u201d approach when it came to revealing this part of herself.<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI\u2019ve chosen to be completely brutally honest about this. That\u2019s something about me that I was never able to share with the world, because it was just never the right time.\u201d<\/p>\n
