Boy Meets World<\/em><\/a> alums Danielle Fishel<\/strong><\/a>, Rider Strong<\/strong><\/a> and Will Friedle<\/strong><\/a> are closer than ever \u2014 but they can\u2019t say the same for their relationships with former costar Ben Savage<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHe disappeared \u2014 I wish I knew why, to this day,\u201d Friedle, 46, told Variety<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Wednesday, June 28. \u201cWe didn\u2019t have a fight. There\u2019s no falling out. There was no animosity. He just woke up one day, and decided\u00a0\u2018I don\u2019t want this person in my life anymore.\u2019\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Friedle \u2014 who portrayed Eric Matthews, the older brother of Savage\u2019s Cory Matthews, on the beloved sitcom<\/a> \u2013 shared that he \u201cfinally sent a text saying, \u2018I\u2019ve known you for 30 years, what\u2019s going on? I\u2019m gonna call you every day until you tell me not to call you anymore.\u2019\u201d However, Friedle gave up after \u201ca month\u201d of not hearing back.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve known him since he was 11 years old, and we have a shared history. And we were doing these conventions together, and we were getting to know each other as adults, and then he just kind of went, \u2018I\u2019m done with you,\u2019\u201d he added, noting that their estrangement is a \u201csore subject\u201d to discuss. \u201cI tried and tried and tried for months, until finally my wife was like, \u2018Why are you doing this to yourself? He obviously doesn\u2019t want you in his life<\/a>.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Savage, Friedle, Strong, 43, and Fishel, 42, all starred on the ABC hit from 1993 to 2000, instantly becoming global teen icons. The popular Friday night staple ran for seven seasons and followed Cory and his friends from middle school through their college years<\/a>. While Friedle was Cory\u2019s whacky older brother, Strong and Fishel portrayed Cory\u2019s childhood best friend and longtime girlfriend, respectively. The sitcom\u2019s revival series, Girl Meets World<\/em><\/a>, premiered on Disney in 2014 \u2014 with all four main characters making appearances throughout the show\u2019s three seasons.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n For years, the group did fan conventions together \u2014 until Savage stopped without any notice. \u201cHe just kind of disappeared from our lives,\u201d Fishel told Variety<\/em> on Wednesday, adding that Savage was there for her when her first son was born early and in the NICU in June 2019. (Fishel shares two sons, Adler, 4, and Keaton, 2, with husband Jensen Karp<\/strong><\/a>.)<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe were just so, so close, especially during that time. He was checking in with me regularly,\u201d she recalled. While Fishel claimed that Savage \u201cghosted us\u201d after that time, she revealed that she remains hopeful they will all reconnect in the future.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIf there\u2019s anything this podcast has taught me, it\u2019s that everyone is on their own journey and having their own experiences that can be perceived many different ways, depending on your POV,\u201d she explained. \u201cSpeaking for myself, Ben and I may be estranged right now and we may have our complaints about each other, but I will always love Ben and want what\u2019s best for him. I don\u2019t think this is the end of our story \u2014 but time will tell.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n When it comes to their podcast, \u201cPod Meets World\u201d \u2014 a rewatch show where the actors watch the sitcom for the first time<\/a>\u00a0and recap the series from their own perspective \u2014 Savage turned down the idea from the very beginning.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHe was very adamant that it was not for him,\u201d Fishel shared. \u201cHe was also very clear, \u2018I don\u2019t want it to stop you. If you guys want to do it, go ahead.\u2019 The time between those conversations and the time we actually started the podcast was a significant amount of time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Strolling down memory lane may not have been the right decision for Savage, but Fishel, Strong and Friedle have garnered great success from the podcast, including seeing more than 17 million downloads and selling popular merchandise.
