{"id":240693,"date":"2026-05-17T02:50:45","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T02:50:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/17\/james-franco-returning-to-first-big-studio-movie-in-over-a-decade-with-rambo-prequel\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T02:50:45","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T02:50:45","slug":"james-franco-returning-to-first-big-studio-movie-in-over-a-decade-with-rambo-prequel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/17\/james-franco-returning-to-first-big-studio-movie-in-over-a-decade-with-rambo-prequel\/","title":{"rendered":"James Franco Returning to First \u2018Big Studio Movie\u2019 in Over a Decade with \u2018Rambo\u2019 Prequel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<figcaption><span class=\"copyright\"><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"\/tags\/james-franco\/\" class=\"celebrity-tag-link\"><strong class=\"celebrity-tag-strong\">James Franco<\/strong><\/a> is returning to Hollywood in a big way.<\/p>\n<p>The 48-year-old actor has been cast in the upcoming <em>Rambo <\/em>prequel titled <em>John Rambo<\/em>, which is being executive produced by the original <em>Rambo <\/em>star <strong>Sylvester Stallone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/james-franco-starring-in-rambo-prequel-with-noah-centineo-comeback-movie-11976959\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">Entertainment Weekly<\/a><\/em>, <strong>James<\/strong>&#8216; will only have a minor role in the movie, but it&#8217;s still his first &#8220;big studio movie&#8221; since appearing briefly in the 2017 film <em>Alien: Covenant<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He also chatted with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/05\/james-franco-first-studio-film-1236900507\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">Deadline<\/a> at the <em><strong>2026 Cannes Film Festival<\/strong><\/em> and said the movie won&#8217;t be ready for the summer of 2026, but he thinks &#8220;it will be end of this year or spring-summer 2027.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Noah Centineo<\/strong> stars as the titular character and the film is directed by <strong>Jalmari Helander<\/strong> (<em>Sisu<\/em>). <strong>David Harbour<\/strong> also recently joined the cast.<\/p>\n<p>In a 2018 <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> article, the <em>127 Hours<\/em> star was accused of sexual misconduct by five women, four of whom were at an acting school he ran. Two of the students filed a lawsuit in 2019. It was settled in 2021. His rep denied the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>He is at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justjared.com\/2026\/05\/12\/james-franco-returns-to-cannes-film-festival-for-third-year-in-a-row-alongside-girlfriend-izabel-pakzad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cannes for the third year in a row<\/a>, returning alongside girlfriend <strong>Izabel Pakzad<\/strong>. While the <em>Rambo<\/em> prequel will be his first big studio film in over a decade, he has been in other smaller projects like the Italian movie <em>Hey Joe<\/em>.
