The vibes around the current AI boom aren\u2019t great, even in the tech industry, according to a lengthy social media post<\/a> from Menlo Ventures partner Deedy Das.\u00a0<\/p>\n Das described San Francisco as \u201cpretty frenetic right now,\u201d as \u201cthe divide in outcomes is the worst I\u2019ve ever seen.\u201d<\/p>\n Using a \u201cback of the envelope AI calculation,\u201d he projected that there are around 10,000 people\u00a0\u2014 founders and employees at companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Nvidia \u2014 that have \u201chit retirement wealth of well above $20M,\u201d while everyone else worries \u201cthey can work their well-paying (but <$500k) job for their whole life and never get there.\u201d<\/p>\n Plus, \u201clayoffs are in full swing,\u201d and \u201cmany software engineers feel that their life\u2019s skill is no longer useful,\u201d leading to confusion about the best career paths and \u201ca deep malaise about work (and its future),\u201d Das said.\u00a0<\/p>\n This prompted some eye-rolling on X, with entrepreneur Deva Hazarika arguing<\/a> that \u201cmost of the people in this post\u201d are \u201cincredibly fortunate and can simply make a choice to be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
