“I’d rather be reminded of who I am than who I’m related to. Who I am is not based on him. And if you really sit with that sentence for a second, even if it comes from a good place, it can feel like it minimises me as an entire individual. Like I’m being reminded of someone else before I’m being reminded of myself.<\/p>\n
\n“I just wanted to say that because I’ve thought about it for a long time, and I hope it makes sense.”<\/p>\n
\nLexi – who the rock icon and his widow, supermodel Iman, 70, welcomed into the world in August 2000 – previously insisted that she is “not a copy” of the Heroes hitmaker after being criticised for trying to replicate David’s success on her debut album Xandri.<\/p>\n
\nIn April 2025, the star launched a defiant message to haters, with a poem titled “DAVID BOWIE’S DAUGHTER”, and posted it to Instagram.<\/p>\n
\nIt read: “DAVID BOWIE’S DAUGHTER. That gets your attention ay?<\/p>\n
\n“I’m the daughter of a legend, but I’m more than just his name.<\/p>\n
\n“They see the blood, they hear the sound yet fail to see me, don’t feel the same.<\/p>\n
\n“They compare me to his heights, like I’m supposed to reach his light, but I’m not here to chase what’s already been done by loving what I do, I feel I’ve already won.<\/p>\n
\n“Some like what I have made, others laugh at how I move, yet they want me to carry on a legacy, but that’s never been my truth.<\/p>\n
\n“I’m not a copy, not a shadow, I’m just a girl that’s as confused at you, never thought I was good at much, never thought it was worth it to pursue.”<\/p>\n
\nThe singer – real name Alexandria Jones – has said the trolling has made her feel “constantly despaired” but she will not let the haters get in the way of following her musical dreams.<\/p>\n
\nLexi’s poem continued: “I’m not trying to be that someone, that all love and admire, so I’m creating my own rhythm, letting my true self show.<\/p>\n
\n“But nobody knows how it may feel to be constantly despaired, then finally just saying, ‘F*** it,’ then being all around compared.<\/p>\n
\n“But I’ll keep moving, keep doing me even when the world is hard to please, I’m not trying to fill his shoes, I’m just trying to find my own peace. (sic)”<\/p>\n
