Thankfully, he\u2019s okay and recovering,\u201d read <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CBSEveningNews\/status\/2054700410389107080\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a tweet<\/a> from CBS News on Wednesday, May 13.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the night, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/cbs-mornings-tony-dokoupil-mistakenly-says-buzz-aldrin-is-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Tony Dokoupil<\/strong><\/a> interrupted a live report on the <em>CBS Evening News<\/em> when a crew member seemingly collapsed in front of him. The episode was airing live from Taiwan in advance of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/cbs-mornings-tony-dokoupil-mistakenly-says-buzz-aldrin-is-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s meeting with Chinese President <strong>Xi Jinping<\/strong> in Beijing on Thursday, May 14.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd finally tonight from Taiwan, as President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping prepare to meet, we will hear a lot about American decline and the rise of a powerful new China,\u201d Dokoupil, 45, began his segment.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"wpcom-iframe-b48180fe757dc56228eced8dbed74294\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" scrolling=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.usmagazine.com\/protected-iframe\/b48180fe757dc56228eced8dbed74294\" frameborder=\"0\" class=\"wpcom-protected-iframe\"><br \/>\n\t\t<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He then veered from his script to ask, \u201cIs he OK?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>CBS Evening News<\/em> immediately cut away from the live shot as a commotion could be heard on the makeshift set.<\/p>\n<p>After several seconds of dead air, Dokoupil announced to viewers, \u201cWe\u2019re going to take a quick break. We\u2019ll be right back!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many viewers shared their concern as it was initially unclear what kind of medical emergency was unfolding on the live shot from Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally glad the <em>CBS Evening News<\/em> photojournalist is ok! Scary moment tonight during the last block,\u201d one viewer <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JustinFleenor\/status\/2054732060984573978\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a> on Wednesday, with another <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tvheidihatch\/status\/2054705488429027400\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adding<\/a>, \u201cThere was a medical emergency during the <em>CBS Evening News<\/em> live on the East Coast. (Dokoupil replaced previous anchors <strong>Maurice DuBois<\/strong> and <strong>John Dickerson<\/strong>, who signed off in December 2025.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe live in a time in which many people have lost trust in the media.
