Chicago Med<\/em><\/a>\u2019s season 11 finale featured many twists and turns \u2014 but the possibility of Goodwin leaving the ED for good isn\u2019t sitting well with fans.<\/p>\n

Warning: Spoilers below from season 11, episode 21 of Chicago Med.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

During the Wednesday, May 13, episode, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson<\/strong><\/a>) backed up Dr. Daniel Charles<\/a> (Oliver Platt<\/strong>) as Dr. Theo Rabari (Manish Dayal<\/strong>) prepared to petition the hospital board to take over his role as head of psychiatry.<\/p>\n

As Charles dug deeper into Rabari\u2019s past, he learned that he has antisocial personality disorder, which played a part in Rabari\u2019s attack on Charles and the personal side of the medical discipline. Charles, however, vowed that he wouldn\u2019t use his disorder to discredit his work or his plan to try and push out Charles.<\/p>\n

Rabari eventually canceled the meeting with the board, and he and Charles ended the episode with mutual respect for each other. In a twist, board member Miranda Lewis (Orlagh Cassidy<\/strong>) declared that while Charles can stay, Goodwin is \u201cout\u201d<\/a> as the executive director of patient and medical services after allegedly leaking Rabari\u2019s medical information.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you want a fight, you\u2019ve got one,\u201d Goodwin told her, as a stunned Charles was left wondering whether his longtime friend could have leaked the information to save his career.<\/p>\n

In the final moments of the episode, Goodwin made it clear with one bold look to the camera that if someone wanted her job, they\u2019d have to take it from her with force.<\/p>\n

That look, an intense stare, is what showrunner Allen MacDonald<\/strong> exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> means that Goodwin will be back for season 12 \u2014 and she\u2019s ready for battle.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say the answer is all in the look of Goodwin\u2019s eyes as she stares at the camera in the final shot, and she\u2019s ready for a fight, and there\u2019s going to be one. I can confirm that,\u201d MacDonald said, noting that Merkerson, 73, came up with that idea to stare down the camera all on her own.<\/p>\n

He recalled, \u201cShe did that on the fifth and final take of that shot. And we all got goosebumps.\u201d<\/p>\n

MacDonald played coy about whether Charles and Goodwin\u2019s friendship will be affected by her alleged actions, but told Us<\/em> that fans will get answers next season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s something that we will unpack as we go into next season,\u201d he confirmed.<\/p>\n

The showrunner also weighed in on what\u2019s next for Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell<\/strong>) and Dr. Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos<\/strong><\/a>) after they both said, \u201cI love you,\u201d during the season finale. (Plus, Ripley pushed Lenox to tell her brother the truth about her positive prion disease diagnosis.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have moved on to another tier now. Lenox is being vulnerable with another person in a way that she really never has in her life,\u201d MacDonald explained. \u201cBecause she\u2019s been trying to protect herself from that sort of vulnerability, because she wanted to achieve, achieve, achieve while she still could in the off chance that she ended up being positive the prion [disease] which she now knows that she is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jessy Schram<\/strong><\/a>, who plays Dr. Hannah Asher, exclusively told Us<\/em> that Lenox\u2019s relationship with Ripley has also \u201cpushed her to be honest\u201d with her brother, which is very new for the doctor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like the truths that have to come out, like this relationship allows her to get to another level,\u201d Schram, 40, said.<\/p>\n

MacDonald added, \u201cThe difference between Ripley in the first scene and the Ripley in the last scene is that he knows that she told her brother, and that changes everything for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah, for her part, successfully gave birth<\/a> to her and Dr. Dean Archer\u2019s (Steven Weber<\/strong><\/a>) baby girl during the finale. The episode ended with Hannah kissing Archer after he admitted he has always loved her, which Schram told Us<\/em><\/a> is part of Hannah\u2019s new plan to \u201clive in the now.\u201d<\/p>\n

The finale also featured a major development in Dr. John Frost\u2019s (Darren Barnet<\/strong>) life after his father \u2014 who he had a rocky relationship with after having to pay for his parents\u2019 lifestyle as a child star \u2014 died.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the short term, he will continue to lean on Dr. Naomi [Howard],\u201d MacDonald said of Frost\u2019s romance with Naomi (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut<\/strong><\/a>). \u201cI think there\u2019s a real chemistry between those two characters.\u201d<\/p>\n
