encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Allen\u2019s charges stem from an alleged incident from the night of Saturday, April 25.<\/p>\n<p>That was the night of the ill-advised White House Correspondent\u2019s Dinner at the Washington Hilton hotel.<\/p>\n<p>According to prosecutors, Allen showed up with guns, knives, and other tools.<\/p>\n<p>There are claims that he exchanged gunfire with security, which may have included a Secret Service officer.<\/p>\n<p>(It is widely believed that there was friendly fire on that night. Many are still sorting out fact from fiction when it comes to that evening\u2019s sequence of events.)<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-theme=\"dark\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Security camera footage released by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro reportedly shows how suspect Cole Tomas Allen started his attack at the White House Correspondents&#8217; Association dinner. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3X1P03xAll\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/t.co\/3X1P03xAll<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9z4CwSS0Rm\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/9z4CwSS0Rm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Reuters (@Reuters) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Reuters\/status\/2050141935541596306?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">May 1, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-one-of-the-charges-is-relatively-new\">One of the charges is (relatively) new<\/h2>\n<p>Initially, prosecutors charged Allen with attempting to assassinate the president, transportation of a firearm and ammunition through interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.<\/p>\n<p>A grand jury has since indicted him on an additional charge: shooting a Secret Service agent.<\/p>\n<p>Some believe that this may be a charge under the felony murder rule.<\/p>\n<p>(That is, if there was friendly fire resulting in a shot to the Secret Service agent, but it happened during Allen\u2019s alleged commission of a felony, then he would be <em>legally <\/em>culpable. It is a well-intentioned law with more downsides than upsides.)<\/p>\n<p>The Trump regime has asserted publicly that this was not a friendly fire incident, in case that\u2019s worth anything.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&#039;Not hit by friendly fire...&#039;: Trump clarifies secret service agent shot during WHCD incident\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IOTQC7HynMU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>31-year-old Allen was a teacher. He allegedly sent an apology note to his family ahead of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>This case appears to be another example of <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2026\/04\/27\/white-house-correspondents-dinner-shooting-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cnormie assassins\u201d in the Trump era<\/a>. That is, people who do not seem to be political extremists taking extreme and violent action.<\/p>\n<p>Some would say that living in a constitutional crisis inevitable spawns retaliatory political violence. <\/p>\n<p>But, even if the claims about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/04\/cole-allen-manifesto-revealed-alleged-gunman-blasts-trump-as-rapist-pedophile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Allen\u2019s actions and motives<\/a> are true, there is a lot that we still do not know.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps we\u2019ll learn more at trial.
