Quinta Brunson<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about her love of Mary Tyler Moore<\/strong><\/a> and The Mary Tyler Moore Show<\/em>!<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old Abbott Elementary<\/em> star received the Mary Tyler Moore Visionary Award at the Variety FYC TV Fest<\/em> last week, and shared how the late actress was her childhood inspiration. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat show went platinum in my household,\u201d she told Variety<\/a><\/em> of the 1970s sitcom. \u201cThe Mary Tyler Moore Show<\/em> was supremely important to me. As a kid, I wasn\u2019t necessarily looking for representation or anything other than \u2018this is a really funny show.\u2019 And that theme song is second nature to me!\u201d<\/p>\n

She later gushed about how Mary<\/strong>‘s path was a guiding light for her. <\/p>\n

“Seeing her first on The Dick Van Dyke Show<\/em>, she gave me this understanding of how the business could work \u2014 that you could be a featured player on one show and then a lead on your own show,\u201d the actress and writer shared. \u201cAnd then have your own business, have your own studio. I remember seeing Mary Tyler Moore<\/strong> on The Oprah Winfrey Show<\/em>, and seeing these two incredible women in media and television just sitting there chatting it up, that was really defining for me. It made me never question whether or not I could do this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just last month, Abbott Elementary<\/em> delivered a shocking decision for audiences, and Quinta <\/strong>explained why that had to happen<\/a>. <\/p>\n
