UPDATE 6\/27\/23 7:12 p.m. ET.<\/strong><\/p>\n The San Fernando Sheriff\u2019s Department confirmed on Tuesday, June 27, that Julian Sands is dead after going missing in California\u2019s Mount Baldy area in January.<\/p>\n \u201cThe identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood. The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results,\u201d the police said in a statement. \u201cWe would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly to try to locate Mr. Sands.\u201d<\/p>\n Update 6\/26\/23\/11:48 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n The San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Department revealed that human remains were found near the disappearance site of actor Julian Sands<\/strong>. \u201cOn Saturday, June 24, 2023, at about 10:00 a.m., civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff\u2019s Station after they discovered human remains in the Mt. Baldy wilderness,\u201d the department wrote in a statement<\/a> on Saturday. \u201cFontana Station deputies, along with the Sheriff\u2019s Department\u2019s Emergency Operations Division, responded to the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n Though the statement did not mention Sands by name, the update noted that \u201cthe decedent was transported to the Coroner\u2019s Office, pending positive identification.\u201d The statement continued: \u201cIdentification should be completed next week at which time we will update this press release. No further details are available at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n Update 1\/24\/23 at 10:57 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n The search continues. The family of Julian Sands<\/strong> spoke out as rescue crews continued looking for the missing actor in California.<\/p>\n \u201cOur heartfelt thanks to the compassionate members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Department who are coordinating the search for our beloved Julian, not least the heroic search teams listed below who are braving difficult conditions on the ground and in the air to bring Julian home,\u201d the family said in a statement on Monday, January 23, as the search for Sands, 65, entered its 11th day. \u201cWe are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support.\u201d<\/p>\n The San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Department also announced that a third hiker, Jin Chung<\/strong>, was reported in the same area \u2014 Mt. Baldy \u2014 where Sands disappeared. A search for Chung began on Sunday, January 22, alongside the search for Sands.<\/p>\n \u201cAs we enter day 11 of the search for Julian Sands on Mt. Baldy, we are reminded of the sheer determination & selflessness of all of the people who have aided in this search,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s department tweeted on Monday. \u201cWe will continue to utilize the resources available to us.\u201d<\/p>\n Original story continues below:<\/em><\/p>\n Julian Sands<\/strong>, known for his work in A Room With a View<\/em> and 24<\/em>, was identified as one of two hikers who went missing in Southern California on Friday, January 13.<\/p>\n Authorities confirmed on Wednesday, January 18, that the British actor, 65, went missing five days earlier after going for a hike on a trail in Mt. Baldy in the San Gabriel Mountains. Gloria Huerta<\/strong>, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Department, said that Sands\u2019 wife, Evgenia Citkowitz<\/strong>, reported her husband missing on Friday.<\/p>\n Huerta added that rescue crews began looking for Sands that day, but the ground search was suspended on Saturday, January 14, because of weather conditions in the area. Rescue workers have continued searching for the Leaving Las Vegas star with helicopters and drones, and will resume the ground search when weather permits.<\/p>\n A second hiker, Bob Gregory<\/strong>, was reported missing by his family on Monday, January 16. Authorities are searching for him in the Crystal Lake area of the San Gabriel Mountains, which are located northeast of downtown Los Angeles.<\/p>\n The San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Department issued a \u201cdangerous conditions\u201d warning for hikers on Wednesday, urging visitors to \u201cthink twice\u201d before heading out on the trails. \u201cOver the last four weeks, San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Search and Rescue (SAR) Teams have responded to 14 rescue missions on Mt. Baldy and in the surrounding area,\u201d read a statement shared via Facebook. \u201cThese rescue missions have been for lost, stranded and\/or injured hikers. Unfortunately, during these past 4 weeks, two hikers did not survive after falling and injuring themselves. Please know the current conditions on Mt. Baldy are adverse and extremely dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n The post included a photo of a trail sign warning of \u201cextreme alpine conditions\u201d in the Mt. Baldy and Icehouse areas, with a list of recommendations that hikers be prepared for the possibility of staying overnight amid changing weather conditions.<\/p>\n Sands, whose film career began in the 1980s, is known as an enthusiastic mountaineer<\/a>. \u201cI love climbing mountains, I\u2019ve spent a lot of time in the Alps over the years, a lot of time in the Andes, Alaska and the American ranges,\u201d the Smallville<\/em> alum told Thrive<\/em><\/a> in May 2020. \u201cIt\u2019s about supplication and sacrifice and humility, when you go to these mountains.
