With 9-1-1: Nashville<\/em><\/a> renewed for season 2, viewers will be introduced to some new faces \u2014 including a character played by Ryan Phillippe<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n

Phillippe\u2019s role was announced<\/a> before the April 2026 finale, which showrunner Rashad Raisani<\/strong> teased after confirming his introduction in future episodes of the hit ABC series.<\/p>\n

According to the official character description, Phillippe will play a detective who is \u201ca seductive bad boy with a past.\u201d He will lead the investigation into \u201ca mysterious criminal tormenting Nashville on a biblical scale.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raisani hinted that Phillippe\u2019s character likely<\/a> won\u2019t have too much history with anyone on 9-1-1: Nashville.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tABC is expanding the 9-1-1 universe again with its 9-1-1: Nashville spinoff \u2014 but who makes up the cast? The 9-1-1 world originated with the OG series, which premiered on Fox in 2018. It followed the professional and personal lives of Los Angeles first responders with Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Aisha Hinds, Oliver Stark, Connie [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThere may be a moment where he realizes that he and Blythe [Jessica Capshaw<\/strong>] might have crossed paths at one point, but he has no deep history,\u201d Raisani told TV Insider<\/em>. \u201cHe\u2019ll be playing this sort of maverick detective who comes in and he\u2019s kind of a disruptor in a different way, and he\u2019ll get in Don\u2019s [Chris O\u2019Donnell] craw, but he\u2019ll also have a real affinity and friendship with Ryan [Michael Provost], Don\u2019s son.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raisani continued: \u201cAnd it will start almost this weird father-son triangle with somebody else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raisani teased that Phillippe and Capshaw\u2019s characters<\/a> \u201cmaybe went on a date or two back when she was back east in college.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re still playing these first couple episodes [of season 2] to see if it\u2019s better if he is just a completely fresh face or if it helps us to have a little backstory,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo I would say we may end up just playing it that he is a fresh [face]. There will be some sparks though, I will tell you that much.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raisani added: \u201cIt just depends if it\u2019s a first impression or if it\u2019s maybe a rekindling.\u201d And this will be coming as Blythe and Don are going to be on shaky ground after the Season 1 finale saw her find out he was willing to sleep with Dixie (LeAnn Rimes) as part of his ex\u2019s terms to not release another diss track about his wife.\u201d<\/p>\n

Phillippe is expected to offer a glimpse into the police side of things. There will be a connection to the criminal in the city who \u201cleads to some great calamities,\u201d with Phillippe\u2019s character \u201cthe tip of the spear dealing with that crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n
