\nEarlier this week, as part of her plea agreement, Britney pleaded guilty to reckless driving, though she didn’t appear in person at Ventura County courthouse.<\/p>\n
\nVentura County Commissioner Matthew Nemerson sentenced Britney to 12 months’ probation and one day of jail, credited as time served.<\/p>\n
\nBritney – who is one of the best-selling pop stars of all time – was also fined $571 and ordered to see a psychologist once a week and a psychiatrist twice a month.<\/p>\n
\nThe Gimme More singer was charged with a misdemeanour in April, and at the time, officials confirmed that the chart-topping star would likely be offered the wet reckless plea as she didn’t have a prior DUI charge.<\/p>\n
\nWhat’s more, officials observed that there was no crash or injury in her arrest, while she also had a low blood alcohol level.<\/p>\n
\nThe District Attorney\u2019s Office explained: “This DUI case will be handled according to our standard protocols. <\/p>\n
\n“For defendants without a prior DUI history, a low blood alcohol level, and where there is no crash or injury, prosecutors typically offer what is known as a \u2018wet reckless.\u2019 This law allows a defendant to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and\/or drugs.”<\/p>\n
\nThe District Attorney\u2019s Office also explained that this type of scenario is \u201ccommon, particularly when a defendant demonstrates self-motivation to address underlying issues through rehabilitation or a drug and alcohol treatment program.<\/p>\n
\n“Under that offer, a defendant is placed on probation for 12 months, receives credit for any time spent in custody, is required to complete a DUI class, and must pay state-mandated fines and fees.”<\/p>\n
