I have a special connection with my Chase Sapphire Preferred\u00ae Card<\/a><\/span> (see rates and fees<\/a><\/span>).<\/p>\n

It was my first travel rewards card<\/a><\/span>, and I proudly used its rewards to make my first-ever transferable points redemption in 2023 \u2014 booking a comfortable Hyatt House in Atlanta by transferring my Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt<\/a><\/span>. From there, I was hooked.<\/p>\n

The Sapphire Preferred’s premium sibling, the Chase Sapphire Reserve\u00ae<\/a><\/span> (see rates and fees<\/a><\/span>), has been on my radar since Chase eased eligibility requirements<\/a><\/span> to carry both Sapphire cards at the same time. The card’s beloved flexible travel credit and luxurious airport lounge access have especially caught my eye.<\/p>\n

Now, with the Sapphire Reserve’s outstanding bonus, offering 150,000 bonus points after spending $6,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening, and solid ongoing value, I am ready to add a second Sapphire to my wallet.<\/p>\n

Here’s a deeper dive into what’s driving my decision.<\/p>\n

Why I’m eligible for the Sapphire Reserve<\/h2>\n

As I mentioned earlier, I became eligible for the Sapphire Reserve<\/a><\/span> after Chase loosened restrictions on holding multiple Sapphire cards. I’ve never wanted to part with the simple, useful ongoing benefits of my Sapphire Preferred<\/a><\/span>, and now I don’t have to if I want to enjoy the Sapphire Reserve as well.<\/p>\n

This is because I’ve never held the Sapphire Reserve or earned its bonus. I’ve only done so with the Sapphire Preferred. If I had previously held the Sapphire Reserve, I wouldn’t be eligible.<\/p>\n

I’m also under Chase’s 5\/24 rule<\/a><\/span> right now, which means I’ve opened fewer than five new personal cards across all issuers in the last 24 months. This is important to be approved for any Chase card \u2014 not just the Sapphire Reserve.<\/p>\n

Statement credits I’ll easily use<\/h2>\n

With the Sapphire Reserve<\/a><\/span>‘s steep $795 annual fee, it is important to me that I can offset that on an ongoing basis.<\/p>\n

While there’s a long list of statement credits<\/a><\/span> with the card, three stand out to me in particular.<\/p>\n

Annual travel credit<\/h3>\n

The Sapphire Reserve’s $300 annual travel credit<\/a><\/span> is one of the best perks out there. It’s flexible, applies to many different types of purchases, and is applied automatically.<\/p>\n
