New York Times<\/a><\/em>, Epstein wrote a suicide note shortly after his arrest in 2019.<\/p>\nAnd despite an ongoing clamor for more information about the disgraced financier\u2019s final days, the contents of the note remain a mystery. But that could soon change.<\/p>\n
The existence of the note was first revealed by Epstein\u2019s former cellmate, a disgraced ex-cop named Nicholas Tartaglione.<\/p>\n
According to the Times<\/em>, the note has been sealed ever since as part of the kidnapping and murder case that has landed Tartaglione behind bars for life.<\/p>\nTartaglione told investigators that he found the note tucked between the pages of a book.<\/p>\n
\u201cI opened the book to read, and there it was,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n
While the most of the note\u2019s contents remain a mystery, Tartaglione alleges that Epstein lashed out at investigators, who, he says, \u201cfound nothing\u201d while building their sex-trafficking case.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat do you want me to do, bust out crying? Time to say goodbye,\u201d Epstein allegedly wrote at one point in the note.<\/p>\n
\nThe Times<\/em> notes that investigators looking into Epstein\u2019s death \u201clacked a key piece of evidence\u201d that might have led to a greater understanding of the inmates final days.<\/p>\n\u201cThe New York Times <\/em>on Thursday petitioned a federal judge to unseal the note. The Times<\/em> has not seen the note, and a Justice Department spokeswoman said the agency had not seen it,\u201d the outlet revealed this week.<\/p>\nFollowing an inquiry into the circumstances of Epstein\u2019s death<\/a>, a Department of Justice Office of Inspector General slammed the jail over \u201cnegligence, misconduct, and outright job performance failures\u201d before agreeing with the conclusion that Epstein had taken his own life.<\/p>\nThe note in question was allegedly written before Epstein\u2019s unsuccessful suicide attempt several weeks before he died in his jail cell.<\/p>\n
