But while \u201cgolden goddess of past, present, and future\u201d was on the mood board, there were also other elements at play. \u201cThe edges are raw,\u201d Gummer notes. \u201cIt\u2019s both raw and sophisticated. Together, like nature.\u201d<\/p>\n The gown, Gummer says, is a bit of a departure from what she typically wears. \u201cThe thing that does feel like me and something that I would go for fashion-wise is that it does show my body,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s very body-conscious, and it\u2019s putting everything on display, but not in a grotesque, gratuitous way.\u201d Given that the gala\u2019s theme was about \u201cembodied dressing\u201d and fashion\u2019s relationship to the body, Gummer hit the nail on the head.<\/p>\n There\u2019s another element of the dress that is special to Gummer. \u201cI feel like a sculpture,\u201d she says. \u201cMy dad is a sculptor, and it was important to me also to honor that idea.\u201d<\/p>\n While she loved honoring her father, Don Gummer, it\u2019s motherhood that has been on the mind for Gummer. She had her second child with husband Mark Ronson last year, and she also earned raves this spring for playing one of America\u2019s foremost mothers (and sisters), Caroline Kennedy.<\/p>\n Love Story<\/em> was a sensation in large part because of its fashion. Although Caroline Kennedy wasn\u2019t necessarily as well-known for her style as her sister-in-law Carolyn Bessette, Gummer was still aesthetically inspired by her character. \u201cShe\u2019s much more of an elevated, classier style than me, but I strive to be more like the Caroline Kennedy in Love Story<\/em> sartorially,\u201d Gummer says. \u201cI feel like she\u2019s just the epitome of grace and class and clean lines, and mixing the end of the \u201980s with the beginning of the \u201990s.\u201d<\/p>\n![\"Image](\"https:\/\/media.vanityfair.com\/photos\/69fa3248a158a88c5d10df63\/master\/w_1600%2Cc_limit\/digital-26.JPG\"\/)
