Anna Camp<\/strong><\/a> isn\u2019t just playing a trad wife \u2014 who churns butter \u2014 on Elsbeth but her character is also being accused of murder.<\/p>\n

In Us Weekly<\/em>\u2018s exclusive first look at the Thursday, May 7, episode of the hit CBS show, Camp, 43, can be seen churning butter<\/a> while Elsbeth (Carrie Preston<\/strong>) grills her about a director\u2019s recent death. Camp\u2019s character distracts from her possible guilt by convincing Elsbeth to join in on her trad wife activities.<\/p>\n

According to the official synopsis, the episode \u2014directed by Pamela Adlon \u2014 follows a case in which \u201can ambitious filmmaker dies in a suspicious cleaning accident.\u201d Elsbeth then \u201cfocuses on the subject of her final documentary: a \u2018trad wife\u2019 whose from-scratch lifestyle included a deadly ingredient.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsbeth, which premiered in 2024, reintroduced the title character after she originally appeared on The Good Wife and The Good Fight. The first two seasons showed Elsbeth becoming a de facto detective who assists the NYPD investigating cases. Preston stars alongside Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhile many TV shows have made household names out of their star players, occasionally showrunners have been able to corral some of Hollywood\u2019s biggest names to drop in for a surprising cameo during a complete episode or a single scene. Perhaps one of the most polarizing cameos belonged to Ed Sheeran on HBO\u2019s Game of [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Season 2, however, ended with Patterson, who plays Kaya, departing the show as a series regular.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been in development since the beginning of season 2,\u201d Preston exclusively told Us in May 2025. \u201cWe wanted to honor her and elevate her to detective. So it was very exciting when that happened for the character. Not as exciting for us though because we love Carra. I love Carra and I obviously love playing with her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Preston promised that wasn\u2019t the last fans would see of Kaya, adding, \u201cShe\u2019s still on the show \u2014 it\u2019s just in a different capacity. It\u2019s nice because it adds some conflict and it adds some stuff for Elsbeth to wrestle with. It\u2019s going to deepen my character.\u201d<\/p>\n

During season 3, Elsbeth has been paired off<\/a> with various cop characters \u2014 and detectives \u2014 before Kaya returned earlier this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Elsbeth having to deal with this person not being there who she really leans on, it\u2019s a real testament to the writers that they did it in such a gradual and beautiful way,\u201d Preston told Us. \u201cIt\u2019s the good thing about Elsbeth, [she] is so positive and never met a stranger.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress didn\u2019t rule out potential \u201cgrowing pains\u201d as Elsbeth adjusts to \u201cflying solo\u201d in season 3, saying, \u201cThe writers have already started introducing other uniformed officers that Elsbeth really relies on to get onto the crime scene. The way our show is structured, it\u2019s not the same detective with Elsbeth on every case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Preston continued, \u201cSo that always adds a little breath of fresh air as well by having different points of views and different people for her to either partner with or go head to head with in the pursuit of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n
