Barr starred as Roseanne Conner while <strong>John Goodman<\/strong> played her onscreen husband, Dan Conner. Their family was expanded with Roseanne\u2019s sister, Jackie (<strong>Laurie Metcalf<\/strong>), and Roseanne and Dan\u2019s kids: Darlene (<strong>Sara Gilbert<\/strong>), Becky (<strong>Sarah Chalke<\/strong> and <strong>Lecy Goranson<\/strong>) and D.J. (<strong>Michael Fishman<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>After the <em>Roseanne<\/em> sitcom was briefly revived in 2018, certain story lines had to be altered. While many original cast members return for new series revisiting old stories, many shows have left out major stars when returning. From reality TV like Jersey Shore \u2014 Samantha \u201cSammi Sweetheart\u201d Giancola did not return for the spinoff, Jersey Shore Family Vacation, when it debuted [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The ABC series was later canceled in the wake of Barr\u2019s controversial social media posts and transformed into <em>The Conners<\/em>, which was a spinoff created without the actress\u2019 involvement.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, over on AMC, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/pictures\/a-guide-to-the-walking-dead-and-its-many-spinoffs-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Fear the Walking Dead<\/em> killed off <strong>Kim Dickens<\/strong><\/a> in 2018 after she played a main character on the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was shocking. Obviously it was shocking to me and it was disappointing. It was heartbreaking,\u201d she told Entertainment Weekly in 2018. \u201cI also thought there was so many more stories to tell and so many more places to go, so I was initially shocked and disappointed and heartbroken. But you know, it\u2019s in the hands of the writers and the producers, and that\u2019s the fate that befalls so many of the characters in this genre.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued: \u201cBasically, the message is, no one\u2019s safe. And these kinds of deaths will ultimately propel the story of the other characters into other places. It\u2019s part of the genre, it\u2019s part of the storytelling device, and I just have to wrap my head around it and go into production.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite committing to the twist for four years, the writing choice was walked back when Dickens returned in 2022. Keep scrolling for other TV characters whose deaths \u2014 or exits \u2014 were walked back due to overwhelming offscreen reactions:<\/p>\n<h2>Gates McFadden (\u2018Star Trek: The Next Generation\u2019)<\/h2>\n<p>After being introduced in season 1 as Dr. Beverly Crusher, Gates McFadden was written out and replaced with Diana Muldaur as Katherine Pulaski. Muldaur left after only one season and McFadden returned in season three due to popular demand.<\/p>\n<h2>Patrick Duffy (\u2018Dallas\u2019)<\/h2>\n<p>The soap opera introduced Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing when the show premiered in 1978. Bobby was later killed off and Duffy left for one year. John Goodman\u2019s character returned with the explanation that anything contradicting that narrative was a dream.<\/p>\n<h2>Tom Selleck (\u2018Magnum P.I.\u2019)<\/h2>\n<p>The main character was nearly killed off at the end of season 7. Ultimately that story was scrapped and Tom Selleck\u2019s character, Thomas, lived to see another day in the eight and final season.<\/p>\n<h2>Kim Dickens (\u2018Fear the Walking Dead\u2019)<\/h2>\n<p>When The Walking Dead expanded with Fear the Walking Dead, Kim Dickens was part of the main cast.
