Several TV shows have made a mistake in killing \u2014 or writing \u2014 a character off before ultimately walking that decision back.<\/a><\/p>\n

Roseanne<\/em>, which originally aired on ABC<\/a> from 1988 to 1997, followed the Conner family as they dealt with trials and tribulations as a working-class family. Barr starred as Roseanne Conner while John Goodman<\/strong> played her onscreen husband, Dan Conner. Their family was expanded with Roseanne\u2019s sister, Jackie (Laurie Metcalf<\/strong>), and Roseanne and Dan\u2019s kids: Darlene (Sara Gilbert<\/strong>), Becky (Sarah Chalke<\/strong> and Lecy Goranson<\/strong>) and D.J. (Michael Fishman<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

After the Roseanne<\/em> sitcom was briefly revived in 2018, certain story lines had to be altered. The original series ended with Dan\u2019s death,<\/a> which the show wrote off as just a dream.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was a clever way to do it, to handle it and get it out of the way,\u201d Goodman teased at a Television Critics Association press tour panel in 2018.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt\u2019s officially the time of reboots and revivals on TV. While many original cast members return for new series revisiting old stories, many shows have left out major stars when returning. From reality TV like Jersey Shore \u2014 Samantha \u201cSammi Sweetheart\u201d Giancola did not return for the spinoff, Jersey Shore Family Vacation, when it debuted [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The ABC series was later canceled in the wake of Barr\u2019s controversial social media posts and transformed into The Conners<\/em>, which was a spinoff created without the actress\u2019 involvement.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, over on AMC, Fear the Walking Dead<\/em> killed off Kim Dickens<\/strong><\/a> in 2018 after she played a main character on the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was shocking. Obviously it was shocking to me and it was disappointing. It was heartbreaking,\u201d she told Entertainment Weekly in 2018. \u201cI also thought there was so many more stories to tell and so many more places to go, so I was initially shocked and disappointed and heartbroken. But you know, it\u2019s in the hands of the writers and the producers, and that\u2019s the fate that befalls so many of the characters in this genre.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cBasically, the message is, no one\u2019s safe. And these kinds of deaths will ultimately propel the story of the other characters into other places. It\u2019s part of the genre, it\u2019s part of the storytelling device, and I just have to wrap my head around it and go into production.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gates McFadden (\u2018Star Trek: The Next Generation\u2019)<\/h2>\n

After being introduced in season 1 as Dr. Beverly Crusher, Gates McFadden was written out and replaced with Diana Muldaur as Katherine Pulaski. Muldaur left after only one season and McFadden returned in season three due to popular demand.<\/p>\n

Patrick Duffy (\u2018Dallas\u2019)<\/h2>\n

The soap opera introduced Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing when the show premiered in 1978. Bobby was later killed off and Duffy left for one year. Offscreen backlash, however, led to Bobby returning and he explained his absence \u2014 and death \u2014 away as all being part of a dream.<\/p>\n
