It\u2019s been brutal out here without new music from Olivia Rodrigo<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 but the \u201cDriver\u2019s License\u201d songstress has finally announced her second album.\n<\/p>\n

Does Olivia Rodrigo\u2019s 2nd Album Have a Release Date?<\/h2>\n

Guts<\/em>, the 20-year-old\u2019s follow-up to her 2021 debut LP, Sour<\/em>, will debut on September 8. \u201cI am so proud of this record and I can\u2019t wait to share it with you all!\u201d Rodrigo shared via Instagram<\/a> on June 26 alongside the cover of her upcoming release.<\/p>\n

The album shows the singer lying on a dark purple background, sporting a black tank top with a purple satin bra peeking out from the neckline. Guts<\/em> is spelled out on her rings.<\/p>\n

What Inspired Olivia Rodrigo\u2019s 2nd Album?<\/h2>\n

The Grammy Award winner explained that Guts<\/em> is all about growth. \u201cFor me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life,\u201d Rodrigo shared in a June press release. \u201cI feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 \u2014 it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that\u2019s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully, the album reflects that.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the 1st Single from Guts<\/em>?<\/h2>\n

Rodrigo will release a new song called \u201cVampire\u201d on June 30. It will be her first single since \u201cBrutal\u201d received a music video in August 2021.<\/p>\n

In May, the California native seemingly teased the lyrics on her Instagram, sharing a photo of the question<\/a>, \u201chow do you lie?\u201d repeated three times. She captioned the snap of the handwritten words with a vampire emoji.<\/p>\n

Who Did Olivia Rodrigo Work With on Guts<\/em>?<\/h2>\n

Rodrigo recorded with producer Daniel Nigro<\/strong>, who previously worked with the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series<\/em><\/a> alum on Sour<\/em>.<\/p>\n

What Has Olivia Rodrigo Said About Her 2nd Album?\n<\/p>\n

Amid announcing Guts<\/em> on June 26, Rodrigo shared via her Instagram Story: \u201cMaking this album was very daunting, very fun, and very fulfilling. I can\u2019t wait for it to be yours. Here\u2019s to all the good times ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s easy to see why it\u2019s a challenge to follow Sour<\/em>. Her debut went platinum four times and resulted in her winning Best New Artist<\/a>, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys. (She also had nominations for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Music Video.)<\/p>\n

As she released her final single from Sour<\/em>, Rodrigo predicted her evolution. She told Clash<\/em><\/a> in August 2021 that the next album was \u201cprobably going to be a lot happier than the record I just made.\u201d<\/p>\n

The New Girl<\/em> alum teased at the time: \u201cMy tastes are always changing, and I think that will be reflected in the next album.\u201d<\/p>\n

After recording her second LP, Rodrigo revealed that there would still be some emo vibes on Guts<\/em>. \u201cI made the bulk of this album during my 19th year on this earth. A year that, for me, was filled with lots of confusion, mistakes, awkwardness & good old fashioned teen angst<\/a>,\u201d she wrote in a June newsletter to fans. \u201cI made it with my friend Dan in between New York and L.A. and I\u2019m so very proud of it.
