A bride is unsure how to proceed with her mom after some messy interactions in the leadup to her wedding.<\/p>\n

Taking to\u00a0Reddit<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s popular \u201cAm I the A\u2013hole\u201d forum, the 32-year-old woman revealed that she and her husband exchanged vows in \u201ca small wedding\u201d the year prior.<\/p>\n

In the leadup to the big day, the bride made multiple efforts to include her mom. However, she said that it went so badly that she eventually gave up. Things were tense, and they only got worse.<\/p>\n

Now, the Redditor wrote that her mom\u2019s \u201cbeen crying to relatives & her friends about how disappointed she is that she wasn\u2019t included.\u201d However, she doesn\u2019t see things the same way and refuses to apologize. Her description led some to speculate that one party is a \u201ctextbook narcissist\u201d with \u201cmain character syndrome.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here’s what happened as they were planning the big day<\/h3>\n

In\u00a0her post<\/a>, the bride explained that her mom \u201chates social events and weddings specifically.\u201d She explained that she \u201cthinks they\u2019re a \u2018waste of money\u2019 and an \u2018inconvenience to guests.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

As a result, the mom, who wasn\u2019t paying, wanted her daughter \u201cto elope or have a micro-wedding.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter telling her \u2018no\u2019 a dozen times, I finally snapped and told her to drop it. After that, she completely shut down and lost interest. I still tried to involve her by inviting her to the florist, dress alterations, offering to go shopping for her MOB outfit but she was always \u2018too busy\u2019 or just uninterested,\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n

The bride added, \u201cI even asked her to get ready with me in the bridal suite, but she refused saying she\u2019d rather get ready at home because she \u2018didn\u2019t want to socialize.\u2019 She even skipped the rehearsal dinner because she \u2018didn\u2019t feel wanted.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

After refusing to get ready with her daughter, the mom came to the bridal suite already dressed with her uncle in tow. The bride told her mom that her uncle was not allowed inside, which left her \u201cincredibly offended.\u201d<\/p>\n

It only got worse after that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen, immediately after the ceremony, she tried to leave. She actually told my MOH to tell me goodbye because she was just\u2026 leaving? It took multiple people convincing her to stay just to take photos and say a proper goodbye. It was a huge, disappointing scene. She missed the reception entirely and of course, this was incredibly noticeable to all of our guests,\u201d the bride recalled.<\/p>\n

Over a year after the wedding, the bride said that her mom is \u201crefusing to have a real conversation with me until I apologize for not taking her feelings into consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I spent months begging her to be involved only for her to blow me off, but now she\u2019s acting like it was my fault that she wasn\u2019t involved,\u201d the bride wrote. She noted that she didn\u2019t feel as though she needed to apologize.<\/p>\n

The bride was assured that she wasn’t in the wrong<\/h3>\n

She sought out assurance from fellow Redditors and certainly found it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow she sounds exhausting. I think she got social feedback that her behavior was messed up and now she wants to rewrite history to make it your fault,\u201d one person wrote. They urged the bride to \u201ctell relatives the real story if you want.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others agreed, describing the mom as \u201ca textbook narcissist\u201d and saying that she suffered from \u201cmain character syndrome.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou didn\u2019t push her anywhere, she stepped out of the planning, the socializing, the festivities\u2026all of it. You tried to include her. Kept inviting her. Not much else you can do without literally forcing her,\u201d one person wrote.<\/p>\n

Another agreed, adding, \u201cWhether consciously or not, your mom is getting something out of creating these situations and playing the victim. I don\u2019t know if she\u2019d be receptive, but therapy may help her work that out. Regardless, it\u2019s not something you\u2019re responsible for.\u201d<\/p>\n

One Redditor provided a sarcastic recommendation for how to proceed, joking that the bride should write her mom the following message: \u201cI\u2019m sorry you felt left out after you tried to discourage me from having a wedding. I\u2019m sorry you felt left out after I invited you to come with me to the florist\/dress shopping\/alterations. I\u2019m sorry you felt left out after I invited you to get ready with me without my uncle in tow. I\u2019m sorry you felt so left out at my rehearsal dinner that you uninvited yourself.”<\/p>\n

The proposed letter continued. “I\u2019m sorry you felt so left out that you didn\u2019t even want a picture with your daughter on her wedding day. I\u2019m sorry that no matter what I did to try to include you and make you feel special, you felt left out, on a day that was about my husband and I celebrating our love and joining our families.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the record,\u201d they added, \u201cI\u2019m not saying you should apologize to your mother, when she was a big party pooper. Weddings really do have a fun way of bringing out the worst in people.\u201d<\/p>\n
