Fire Country<\/em> <\/a>is going through a massive change<\/a> when it returns for season 5.<\/p>\n

The CBS drama received a 13-episode order, which is down from its usual 20 episodes. It is joining NCIS: Origins<\/em> and NCIS: Sydney<\/em> \u2014 and Matlock<\/em> \u2014 as shows with a reduced episode order. Deadline<\/em><\/a> reported that the change comes after the network expanded its scripted roster for the fall 2026 TV season.<\/p>\n

Fire Country<\/em>, which premiered in 2022, follows inmate Bode (Max Thieriot<\/strong>) as he attempts to shorten his prison sentence by volunteering for the California Conservation Camp Program. By the third season, Bode is out of prison and determined to prove himself at Cal Fire.<\/p>\n

The hit series previously went through a shakeup<\/a> when news broke in April 2025 that budget cuts led to Billy Burke <\/strong>and Stephanie Arcila<\/strong>\u2018s exits. (Burke has yet to address his departure.)<\/p>\n

I believe that if we put resistance towards that, sometimes it stops us from fulfilling other things that we love.\u201d<\/p>\n

Showrunner Tia Napolitano<\/strong>, meanwhile, defended the decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a fire show. Anyone can go at any time,\u201d she told Us<\/em> in October 2025. \u201cBut in terms of losing people, we\u2019re also adding some really fun guest cast. It\u2019s a revolving door of people from Sharon\u2019s past and new faces that are exciting to bring conflict and secrets and twists and turns.\u201d<\/p>\n

Napolitano teased how the show<\/a> will have to balance \u201creally spicing it up\u201d while still walking a \u201cfine line\u201d of paying tribute to the loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we\u2019ve done is really thread the needle of honoring \u2014 especially Vince \u2014 because Gabriella is gone, but she\u2019s gone to a happy and successful life. She\u2019s still out there. But we really walk this line of honoring Vince while also finding hope rather quickly,\u201d she noted. \u201cLooking forward, the theme of the season is rising from the ashes and recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
