The 44-year-old pop star was arrested on March 4 after she was reported to the California Highway Patrol\u2019s Ventura Communications Center for “driving erratically at a high rate of speed”, and she’s now been charged with a DUI.<\/p>\n
Spears – who is one of the world’s best-selling pop stars – will be arraigned on Monday (04.05.26) at the Ventura County Superior Court.<\/p>\n
In a statement given to Us Weekly, the Ventura County District Attorney\u2019s Office said: “Whether or not Ms. Spears will appear at the hearing will be a decision made between her and her attorney. Since it is a misdemeanour charge, she is not required to attend, and her attorney can make the appearance for her.”<\/p>\n
The District Attorney\u2019s Office confirmed that Spears will face the same “protocols” as everyone else.<\/p>\n
\nThe statement explained: “This DUI case will be handled according to our standard protocols. <\/p>\n
\n“For defendants without a prior DUI history, a low blood alcohol level, and where there is no crash or injury, prosecutors typically offer what is known as a \u2018wet reckless.\u2019 This law allows a defendant to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and\/or drugs.”<\/p>\n
\nThe District Attorney\u2019s Office also explained that this type of scenario is \u201ccommon, particularly when a defendant demonstrates self-motivation to address underlying issues through rehabilitation or a drug and alcohol treatment program.<\/p>\n
\n“Under that offer, a defendant is placed on probation for 12 months, receives credit for any time spent in custody, is required to complete a DUI class, and must pay state-mandated fines and fees. This offer will be extended to Ms. Spears on Monday.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, a spokesperson for Spears previously addressed the incident.<\/p>\n
\nThe spokesperson told Us Weekly in March: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.<\/p>\n
\n“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney\u2019s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.<\/p>\n
\n“Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”<\/p>\n
