\nResponding to Jimmy\u2019s remarks, Melania fumed: \u201cKimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. \u201cHis monologue about my family isn’t comedy \u2013 his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nShe continued: \u201cPeople like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMelania added: \u201cA coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him. Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe comments followed Jimmy\u2019s parody of the dinner broadcast, in which he referenced Melania\u2019s appearance and upcoming birthday. <\/p>\n
\nDuring the segment, he said: \u201cOur First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cYou know, Melania’s birthday is on Sunday. She’s planning to celebrate at home the same way she always does, looking out a window and whispering, \u2018What have I done?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe segment prompted criticism online, including from Larry O’Connor, who wrote on X: \u201c@disney, you have a problem,\u201d referring to ABC\u2019s parent company, The Walt Disney Company.<\/p>\n
\nThe parody aired days before the disruption at the Correspondents\u2019 Dinner, where guests were forced to take cover after what officials described as \u201cloud noises\u201d prompted a security response. <\/p>\n
\nSecret Service agents moved swiftly to secure the ballroom as attendees, including journalists and other public figures, took shelter after Trump was rushed out.<\/p>\n
\nThe location carries historical significance as the site of the Attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan, when Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981.<\/p>\n
\nFollowing the incident, Trump addressed the US, saying: \u201cWhen you’re impactful, they go after you. They seem to think he was a lone wolf. We’re not going to let anybody take over our society.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cI just spoke to the officer and he’s doing great,\u201d after confirming a Secret Service agent had been shot at close range but was protected by a bullet-resistant vest.<\/p>\n
\nThe White House has said the Correspondents\u2019 Dinner will be rescheduled within 30 days.<\/p>\n
