One of Donald Trump<\/strong>\u2018s most vocal allies accused him of \u201cusing\u201d the latest attempt on his life to distract the American people. <\/p>\n The 79-year-old president was rushed out of the 2026 White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner<\/a> at the Washington Hilton on Saturday evening (April 25) after shots were fired. The alleged shooter was identified as Cole Thomas Allen<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n However, in the aftermath of the shooting, one of Trump<\/strong>\u2018s former supporters spoke out about the incident and implied that he\u2019d take advantage of it to pass an unpopular bill. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The president\u2019s outspoken former ally was Marjorie Taylor Greene<\/strong>, the former congresswoman from Georgia who broke with Trump<\/strong> in late 2025 and resigned from Congress<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cThe President is using his war on Iran and last night\u2019s WHCD shooting as excuses to give up your rights so that Congress just passes a clean extension of FISA 702,\u201d Greene <\/strong>implied in a post on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n She continued, adding, \u201cIt\u2019s ridiculous and absurd that any President who has sworn an oath to uphold the constitution would ever tell Americans to give up your rights so the government has the ability to spy on you, especially a government that has already done it to not only him, but to hundreds of thousands of Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd what\u2019s even more ridiculous is that Congress can easily re-authorize FISA 702 with warrant requirements to protect American citizens rights and still be able to go after terrorist,\u201d she wrote. \u201cThe questions you should be asking is why is this so hard for them and why would the President of the United States demand a clean re-authorization of FISA 702 without warrant requirements???\u201d<\/p>\n FISA 702 refers to a section of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which is set to expire on April 30, NPR <\/a>reported. <\/p>\n The outlet explained that the section \u201callows U.S. intelligence agencies to intercept the electronic communications of foreign nationals located outside of the United States. Some of the nearly 350,000 foreign targets whose communications are collected under the provision are in touch with Americans, whose calls, texts and emails could end up in the trove of information available to the federal government for review.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s a controversial measure as a warrant is not currently required to access the information shared by U.S. citizens. <\/p>\n At the moment, the president does not appear to have referenced FISA 702 since the shooting occurred. However, NPR noted that he has previously encouraged an extension on the measure to be passed. <\/p>\n In another post on X, Greene<\/strong> also questioned why the alleged shooter\u2019s manifesto was released. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m 1,000% for releasing the manifesto. I\u2019m for releasing all shooter\u2019s information including what SSRI\u2019s they are on, if any, all meds or drugs,\u201d she wrote. \u201cBut I want to know why the Trump admin released Cole Allen\u2019s manifesto immediately but they still keep a tight lid on Thomas Crooks,\u201d referring to Matthew Thomas Crooks who died in an alleged assassination attempt<\/a> on the president in 2024. \u201cThomas Crooks is dead and actually did shoot Trump in the face (ear which is part of the face) so why is all of his info\/files totally sealed. It shouldn\u2019t be.\u201d<\/p>\n She added, \u201cBut a lot of info including the manifesto of Cole Allen, who is still alive, gets released immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
