Author Freida McFadden<\/strong><\/a> says Sydney Sweeney<\/strong><\/a> was \u201cexactly\u201d what she imagined when writing The Housemaid<\/em><\/a>, making her the perfect choice to star in the film.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe has the right vibe,\u201d McFadden, 45, told Us Weekly<\/em> exclusively at the 2026 TIME100 Gala<\/a> hosted at Lincoln Center in New York City on Thursday, April 23. \u201cShe has this great energy and passion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sweeney, 28, played The Housemaid protagonist Millie in the film adaptation, which hit theaters in December 2025. It was announced that the second book in McFadden\u2019s series \u2014 The Housemaid\u2019s Secret<\/em> \u2014 would also be adapted with Sweeney returning alongside Kirsten Dunst<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so excited about it,\u201d McFadden told Us<\/em>. \u201cWe have Kirsten Dunst, who I\u2019ve been a fan of pretty much my whole life.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cI think it\u2019s gonna [have] completely new twists, completely new family, and I think it\u2019s gonna surprise people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just like Sweeney, author McFadden is no stranger to making headlines. The famed thriller writer\u2019s true identity was questioned several times throughout her 23-year career, leading many readers to wonder about her personal life.<\/p>\n

McFadden officially revealed her real name<\/a> \u2014 Sara Cohen<\/strong>, a doctor who treats brain disorders \u2014 earlier this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m at a point in my career when I\u2019m tired of this being a secret. I\u2019m tired of people debating if I\u2019m a real person or if I\u2019m three men,\u201d McFadden told USA Today<\/em> in an article published on April 8. \u201cI am a real person and I have a real identity and I don\u2019t have anything to hide.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cMy whole goal was to keep it a secret until I was [ready to] step back from my doctor job, so it wouldn\u2019t be like everyone I work with suddenly knew and it compromised my ability to do my job. But I have stepped away from my job. I\u2019m only working, like, once or twice a month.\u201d<\/p>\n

McFadden said she wears a wig<\/a> when taking on her author persona because she has \u201cno idea\u201d how to do her hair in real life.<\/p>\n
