Trump<\/strong> referenced previous wars that the United States was involved in and their timelines. <\/p>\n\u201cDon\u2019t rush me,\u201d the president said. \u201cWe were in Vietnam for 18 years. We were in Iraq for many, many years. We\u2019re in for\u2026 I don\u2019t like to say World War II because that was a biggie. But we were four and a half, almost five years in World war II. We were in the Korean War for seven years.\u201d<\/p>\n
He continued, insisting, \u201cI\u2019ve been doing this for six weeks, and their military is totally defeated.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Republican blamed confusion within Iran for delays. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey have all new leadership, and they\u2019re fighting like cats and dogs for who\u2019s going to control because we\u2019ve created a real mess for them. But they\u2019ve created a mess for the world over the last 47 years,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cThey\u2019ve killed a lot of our people. When you see a soldier, a young person or now an old person, but a person without legs or without arms or with a face that got blown to pieces, most likely it was from Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n
As for the ceasefire agreement, Trump<\/strong> said it was \u201ca little chance to get some of [the] turmoil resolved\u201d within the Iranian leadership. <\/p>\nHe then incorrectly implied that the military strike has only been going on for five and a half weeks. <\/p>\n
As questions continued, he said that he could \u201cmake a deal right now\u201d to end the war. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf I left right now, we had a tremendous success. It would take them 20 years to rebuild. But I don\u2019t want to do that. I want to have it everlasting. I want to have it where they never have a chance to get it,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
When asked about his response to Americans who are getting concerned as the fighting continues, he deemed the reporter \u201csuch a disgrace.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cDid you hear what I just said? Vietnam? How many years was Vietnam?\u201d<\/p>\n
Later in the press conference, he deemed a reporter a \u201cwise guy,\u201d saying that he was cutting off his response to a question. <\/p>\n
Trump<\/strong> was also questioned about if he planned to use a nuclear weapon in the country, a question that he branded \u201cstupid.\u201d <\/p>\n\u201cWe don\u2019t need it. Why do I need it? Why would a stupid question like that be asked? Why would I use a nuclear weapon when we\u2019ve totally, in a very conventional way, decimated them without it? No, I wouldn\u2019t use it. A nuclear weapon should never be allowed to be used by anybody,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
