Gwen Stefani<\/strong><\/a> famously sang about feeling \u201chella good\u201d during her time with No Doubt \u2014 but the group wasn\u2019t immune to pressures of making a hit album.<\/p>\n The \u201cHollaback Girl\u201d songstress, 53, got real on about the hardships she faced while recording No Doubt\u2019s final record<\/a>\u00a0in 2012.<\/p>\n \u201cPush and Shove<\/em>, the title, actually makes so much sense to the songs,\u201d Stefani told Fault<\/em><\/a> magazine in an article published on Thursday, June 22. \u201cThat whole time period was just a really hard time. Everything was like we were in molasses, and nothing was coming easy.\u201d<\/p>\n The Grammy winner cofounded No Doubt in 1986 with her brother Eric Stefani<\/strong>, who left the band in 1995, and John Spence, who died by suicide in 1987. Bassist Tony Kanal<\/strong>, guitarist Tom Dumont<\/strong> and drummer Adrian Young<\/strong> joined the group before they released their debut record, No Doubt<\/em>, in 1992. Trombonist and keyboardist Gabrial McNair<\/strong> and trumpeter and keyboardist Stephen Bradley<\/strong> toured with the ska band beginning in the mid-1990s.<\/p>\n The Orange County-based group released five records between 1992 and 2001 that included hits such as \u201cJust a Girl,\u201d \u201cHella Good\u201d and \u201cHey Baby.\u201d The band\u2019s 1995 chart topper \u201cDon\u2019t Speak,\u201d which Gwen wrote, was inspired by her split from Kanal, whom she dated from 1987 to 1994<\/a>. Amid their success, the group took a break in 2003 to work on solo projects, including Gwen\u2019s 2004 album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby<\/em>.<\/p>\n When No Doubt reunited in 2008 and subsequently released their final record, Push and Shove<\/em>, four years later, the dynamic had shifted.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel that record was where No Doubt was most confused. We just had come back together, and we wanted to do it so badly,\u201d Gwen explained to the magazine on Thursday. \u201cBut for me, I was completely depleted from my world tour and giving birth. So many things had happened and then we tried to write that record.\u201d<\/p>\n The California native \u2014 who shares sons Kingston, 17, Zuma, 14, and Apollo, 9<\/a>, with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 confessed that it wasn\u2019t always easy managing her and her bandmates.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you work with No Doubt, it\u2019s almost like you have to have somebody that\u2019s just there to make everybody happy so that everybody can have their little piece,\u201d she recalled. \u201cIt was a lot, that was a struggle, that record.\u201d<\/p>\n Although it wasn\u2019t the best recording experience, Gwen told the outlet it \u201cmakes [her] happy\u201d that people listened to the album. No Doubt announced their hiatus in 2013 but sporadically reunited for live performances in 2014 and 2015.<\/p>\n Another No Doubt reunion, however, isn\u2019t totally off the table, according to The Voice<\/em> coach<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat are the odds of anything? I was just on The Drew Barrymore Show<\/em>. She was one of my favorite celebrities when I was a little girl, and now I was just on the show with her. Anything can happen,\u201d Gwen said during a December 2022 interview with WSJ. Magazine<\/em><\/a>. \u201cWe haven\u2019t really talked about doing anything, but it feels like everyone is, right? I\u2019m looking up, but to be able to do it still and have the opportunity to come there and be on such a huge stage with Pink<\/strong><\/a>, it\u2019s just gonna be one of those \u2026 I don\u2019t remember a lot, but I\u2019m gonna remember this one.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
